Seen lots of 4 car trains on the south line. The NE line.......not so much. Elitists.

Yes. The Blue Line West is a newer line where the demand hasn't grown yet, and has a lower ceiling in that regard, and the Blue Line Northeast is indeed busy, but the Red Line South has the most ridership by a significant margin, so 4 car trains will be deployed here first. The Blue Line will get some eventually once the new cars come into service.

I know many years ago I talked about this with Ric McIver- when he was an alderman. He said they had discussed this in council, and one of the challenges was enforcement. All it would take is somebody registering their vehicle at a friend's house in Calgary, and that would circumvent the process.
That is true, but if someone goes to that much trouble I am sure they would be in the minority. I think the majority would abide and pay.

I don't know about that. I have a friend who's a newspaper columnist in this city. He's written many hundreds of columns, and received many hundreds of angry letters and emails in response. But he told me the most angry responses to a column he has received, by far, was when he suggested charging out of town commuters more for transit. Never underestimate the remarkable sense of entitlement people develop over the services they use.

Were those people residents (i.e. voters)? Or the out of town leeches? If it's the latter, what are they going to do about it? Drive all the way into downtown out of spite?
I'm sure Calgary Parking Authority has empty spots downtown they'd be happy to fill...

“Calgary Transit is always looking for ways to generate new revenue,” Collins said. “Whether it’s just getting that extra hour of sleep in the morning – or unwinding after a long, hard day’s work – now there’s more you can do at Calgary Transit.”
It’s expected the TransitNap beds will generate an extra $500,000 in revenue this year alone.
No update on the new trains yet? The old ones have been breaking down quite frequently lately. I was on one standing near the cab door the other day when the train shut down and they had to walk the driver through what was basically "have you tried turning it off and on again?"

I understand it, only two have arrived.... and there are a few setbacks -- teething problems

If I'm still passing the new trains being tested in the summer while my legs are getting blasted with hot air from an old train in +30 heat I'm going to be sad.

Its hilarious that I have to Tweet Calgary Transit to turn off the heat because their drivers are too stupid to know that when it warmer then 5 degrees no heat is needed.

I believe the heat is from the braking system and is designed to keep the trains warm mostly in the winter. At least on the older trains, I think there is no "off" option when it comes to this.

Yup, on the older trains (U2's), the heat comes from the brakes and sometimes the baffler sticks and makes the train much warmer than it should be. Even on the newer trains we have no control over the temperature per se, just whether the HVAC system is on or off and we have to keep it on at all times so really we have no control at all.

It sounds like CT put the first couple through vigorous testing, figured out a few tweaks that they would like, and are getting those tweaks fixed in Sacramento before they are shipped up here.
Remember that these are basically a new model, the no other transit agency has ordered before.
