I do laugh at the irony of some posters here that have made posts alluding to supporting the reduction of head shots, fighting and player safety in the game, and at the same time, they are regulars in the MMA thread as hard core fans. Where the primary objective is to inflict enough brain damage to concuss your opponent into unconsciousness.
Seems like a very hypocritical stance. How can you support MMA fighting, when you adamantly oppose fighting and head shots in the NHL because of the safety implications?
This 1000x.
I am a guy that actually likes a street fight IF IT IS JUSTIFIED but hate MMA. There is no purpose to it other than for blood sport. I don't agree with staged fights in hockey but in the heat of the moment go for it . Example for this would be the Ferland and Lipon fight tonight.
Thanks I'm good with hockey. Maybe take up UFC if you want to see a couple meatheads fighting.
Fighting has always been a part of hockey.
And in recent years it is down significantly, which I am good with but it will never be completely eliminated nor should it be IMO. I enjoy my hockey with the odd fight - staged fights can GTFO though

Congratulations on making the thread all about yourself.
You're a god damned hero.
Lol. Resorting to name calling and sarcasm. Its clear that you are unable to make a valid, sensible arguement for keeping fighting in hockey so you have to resort to other tactics.

Where was the name calling? I think you have a brain injury from one of your 'justified street fights'.
See what I did there was name calling. I implied that you're an idiot.
I'm no insider, but it doesn't take an expert to tell that the rate of fighting has gone down this year. Why has Bollig only played 42 games this year, with terribly low ice-time? Why is McGrattan buried in the AHL? Because there is no need for these enforcers!
The league is shifting to a style of play typically won with speed and skill, something a lot of fighters don't have. That doesn't mean that fighting has to go! We have guys like Iginla, Lucic, Backes, and Benn in this league who are not only great skilled players, but they can fight in the heat of the moment! While there is no need for staged fighting - or the players that cause them - anymore, this league needs intensity to keep fans into it. And with the rate of fisticuffs already falling, there'll be no need to eliminate it before it becomes something really special and rare in a game, akin to a penalty shot, albeit a bit more common.
It'll signify to the fans that they're in for an intense game.

I think the NHL will have to ban it in the next 10 years for liability reasons. Fights might still happen, but the NHL won't be able to look the other way and not have a strict policy prohibiting fights.

Still waiting for someone to make a legitimate argument onto why fighting should still be in hockey. Instead we have a bunch of teenagers bullying and thanking posts and calling me stupid.
No surprise that posters who like watching meatheads fighting can't make a sensible argument.

I don't think insinuating that anyone who enjoys fighting is stupid is the smart way to go here...
