Crash and Bang Winger

Watching the second episode, there's been at least two bits of dialogue that are lifted from The West Wing. The bit about this not being comedy camp is an old Toby line when he was excluding Sam from a meeting because he didn't want the liberalness. The other one...something about just being a guy sitting somehwere or something...word for word Bartlet. Other than the Mad Libs, I like it.
Nice touch on Matthew Perry's fame though where Brad Whitford did the Chandler "Could you be any more..." and Matt Perry had a puzzled look on his face.

And this take on "Modern Major General" is an episode unto itself of TWW.

Yeah I caught that as well. Liked it.
I have yet to watch the pilot for this show, tonights episode was the first one I managed to catch, but I can't say I was overly impressed with it. Maybe my expectations are a little high though, given all the great things I was hearing about it. It was good enough, though, that I will try and catch it next week.
I really liked Matthew Perry. I am biased as I have a crush on the man, but it didn't really feel Chandler-esque to me, and that was one thing I was expecting to see. Glad that he didn't just rehash that character.
Liked Amanda Peet, I think she is great.
I agree about the female love interest for Perry, I think her name is Harriet. Something just didn't feel right about it. Perry described her as 'undeniably sexy' and, I really hate saying this, but I didn't get that from her at all... maybe it's cause I am a woman though...

This is a great show. Sure, anyone who has watched TWW and Sportsnight is going to find the dialogue instantly recognisable but, to me at least, that's a really good thing. Sorkin is an amazing writer and I'm so pleased to see him back with a major show.
Studio 60 is giving me the same feelings watching it as watching Sportsnight for the first time.

Genie? Can't remember if that was her name or not... either way, I didn't really think she was sexy either. For my money, Amanda Peet is the only sexy chick on the show thus far.

Tonight's was another good one. Although there was something i noticed that kind of bugged me and that was- why are they CONSTANTLY walking away from each other when they're talking to each other? Never with any direction either. Just walking. Specific example (out of many):
Perry is directing a meeting and giving the staff grief about dressing inappropriately. His ex girlfriend storms in and starts going to town so he leaves. No biggie there, that's understandable. Then he just starts walking around. To no where in particular. Just walking. He does it (and not only him) ALLLLLLL the time!
If I was on that show I'd be like look, jackass, you wanna talk to me you can stand there and talk to me instead of sending me on a walkathon through the studio for no apparent reason.
Not sure why that bugs me so much. Lots of shows do it now to give the effect that the characters are "really busy" but I mean come on...
|
^^^It didn't really bug me but its definately a trade mark of any Sorkin show. People walking around a lot while talking.
I do enjoy though how the show uses so many long takes. Too many shows now have the rat-a-tat-tat cutting style. In some cases (NYPD Blue) it works perfectly but sometimes it takes away from the show. I suspect the longer takes also allows the actors to really get into a scene.

I like the long takes as well. This show is about a group of people putting together a weekly live show. They probably want to portray a frenzied last minute type feel, hence the walking around and never really just standing still.... at least that's my take on it.

What are you talking about, did you see that a$$ I mean
Plus she adds in the ethnic look, very hot. Agree the blonde isnt that great - a little on the olde side. Peet is ok, I will always remember her with that dorky look when she first met Jimmy the Tulip.

Another great episode last night. I think I am hooked.
I thought Light Brown Genie was Hawt, but agree with the general assessment of Harriet. Not liking that story line.
Peet's No-BS character is great. I loved the scene with the Affiliates Manager....right down to getting both of their names wrong. Classic.

If anyone cares, you can watch the season premiers of Veronica Mars and Everybody hates Chris online, 6 days before they air on CW.

Saw this show tonight, absolutely love it. Good to see Matthew Perry can do something other than his normal clumsy comedy character. (Friends, Whole 9/10 yards)

Did you like Aaron Sorkin's previous shows (West Wing/Sports Night). If so - you likely enjoy Studio 60, but if you didn't, I can understand this not being a cup of team. But your comments about it moving quite slowly puzzle me because one of Sorkin's trademarks are shows that have a pretty frenetic (sp?) pace to them. Sure, no car explosions, shoot outs or anything but the pace is pretty brisk I think.
As for Jack, I think he is the President of the parent company that owns NBS.
Other thoughts...
I thought Harriet was better tonight. I still don't find her appealing as a love interest but at least the character is starting to emerge. Still rather 'meh' about her though.
"She wants us to make fun of her."
"Well...your teeth are kinda big".
Hilarious.

meh, the delivery was ok, but it was a mildly amusing moment more than hilarious.
you just dont end the show wanting to start the next episode, at least in my opinion. i will watch it again next week, nothing better in that timeslot, hopefully it grows on me.

Watched the second episode on the train this morning. I really want to like this show but have a feeling I will have to get to know the characters (there's a lot of them) better.
