Too sad. Phanuthier was always a great level headed poster. Big loss to the CP community.

He was here in California

Good poster, posted smartly, not just lots.
This really surprised me as well, and a little eerie that he knew he was going to die soon. RIP.

I think that's another poster.

As Reggie mentioned, he went from "Gauthier" then "Splatman Gauthier" which morphed into "Phanuthier.".

Very sad to hear. I don't post much but I probably spend as much time reading in here as anyone. He and I talked some back in the day and he was very friendly and well spoken. I'm really going to miss reading his thoughts and opinions on here. Wish I had have known beforehand and could have let him know that a stranger in NS will still think of him when he's gone.

Fascinating that he seemed to see it coming. I have a million questions I wish I could ask him.

My condolences to those who were close to him.

Oh my, this is shocking news to log into and see. I'm a bit at a loss. Eddie and I have both been on here for a long time and like many others, 'grew up' here together on CP. He and I were often on the same page, as I could tell as we tended to thank each others' posts. I think we shared a similar sense of humour as well. He was one of my kindred spirits on here. Don't know what to say, other than to say I feel like I've been blindsided by a Gauthier hipcheck--I'm sure if they've got CP in heaven he would be giving me a thanks for that one. Rest in peace buddy, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all your friends and family as well.

Definitely one of my favorite posters. I remember him especially from the 2006 season and the first round loss to the Ducks. Always looked forward to his thoughts on the games throughout that season.

These days when I would quickly scroll through a game thread or post game thread I'd always stop and read what he had to say. Always appreciated what he had to say in regards to the Flames.

My condolences as well to those who were close to him.

I don't think it was mentioned but he unfortunately contracted viral encephalitis. His immune system started attacking his brain cells which led to symptoms (hallucinations and seizures) about 3 weeks ago. The seizures got worse and he ended up in a coma. The family had to make the terrible decision to remove him off life support on Monday at 5:15pm PST.

1 in a 500,000 chance apparently to die from this. The one thing we can all take solace in is that Eddie really knew how to enjoy life, which was evident from his adventures.

I don't post here much anymore but, having been around since 2003, Phanuthier was very familiar to me. I always enjoyed his posts.

Such a sad day. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I don't even know what to say. I really enjoyed his posts and he seemed like a good guy, very positive. I interacted with him a bit via PM when I was new here, he was so friendly. Truly one of the good guys around here.

Blah. Life sucks sometimes. You have to cherish what you have because anything can happen.
