I'm just playing Devils Advocate here, it is what it is, but I know I will be extremely disappointed if we lose any of the Flames star players for any length of time because of this tournament, because ultimately what I want to see is the Flames eventually win a Stanley Cup.

All I am saying is there is a chance they get hurt this summer training and there is a chance they get hurt playing in this tournament. Of course I will be pissed if any Flame gets seriously hurt. I would rather watch my favorite players play in this tournament than not though. I am pumped we have 2 guys on the young stars roster and hope we have at least one more. I also question how competitive this thing will be. I can't see players treating this like the Olympics

@WesGilbertson: According to #Flames coach Bob Hartley, C Sam Bennett (upper body) is out tomorrow against Blues, D TJ Brodie (upper body) is doubtful.
I'm worried about Bennett, I think for sure it's that shoulder or a concussion.

You figure if it was shoulder someone would've spotted him in a sling by now? In the social media era surely someone would've seen him and we all would have heard about it

The quality of play at the World Cup/Canada Cup has never been an issue in the past. If you think any of these guys are going to dog it in front of their sports elite with all the eyes of the hockey world watching, you're fooling yourself.
Nobody who gets to play here is a bubble player. It's a best on best event that NHL players get paid for.
Personally, I think most of the resistance to this event is rooted in insecurity. Canada is guaranteed nothing in this event, and that bothers people. Myself, I'm very curious to see how it goes.

I personally don't give a crap if Canada loses at the WC. Honestly I hope it's NA U23 vs Team Europe, that would be hilarious.

FWIW, Sports Illustrated thinks the Flames may have rushed Bennett and this year has been one of the disappointments this season:

He's not in a sling. He signed my son's jersey on Friday night.

Hartley referred to both injuries as mid-body ones. So maybe ribs or abdominal strain, etc.

If anything, I think he has lacked quality linemates more than anything, and I hope to see that corrected next season.

The alternative was the OHL. The idea that Bennett was rushed is laughable.

6th on the team in points and 2 points off Monahan's rookie season in 16 fewer games, while playing on the 2nd/3rd lines (same as Monahan's rookie year) is pretty good. Nobody should have expected a Gaudreau type season from Bennett.

Bennett has two less points then Monahan did as a similar 19 year old rookie.

From the article, I can only infer that Monahan was obviously rushed. Had the Flames taken their time with him, he would have been a 50 goal, 120pt player. When will the Flames learn??

Maybe should have tagged NSFW but I don't know how.

Wow not to beat a dead horse but that article is terrible.
Other players with 12 even strength goals this season:
Backstrom
Beleskey
Benn
E. Kane
Kreider
Little
Ryan
Sharp
Steen
Other players with 23 even strength points this season:
Vanek
Tatar
Steen
Parenteau
Koivu
Hanzal
Donskoi
Doan
And funny enough Backlund, Frolik and Colborne.
If the Flames powerplay wasn't such an abysmal failure this year, that same article would be published praising Bennett because he'd have 8-10 more points.
