Sticks actually score goals. Without a stick you can't score unless you stand in front of the net and hope it bounces off your body.
Sticks take time to get used to so I have no doubt it'll take Johnny some time to get used to whatever new stick he uses. Hopefully he decides which one he wants to use in the off season and practices and gets used to it then.

Good thing he never got sent to the A where he wouldn't be allowed to use that stick or any Bauer stick at all for that matter.
He'll probably just move to the 1X (like Hamilton) next season and get them built with the same flex, kick profile, and blade tourque and stiffness he likes.
Also it's not uncommon these days for a lot of guys to be dropping down in flex, and using shorter sticks with higher lies. Time and space decreases every year so quick releases are becoming more important than heavy shots, and board battles plus in-tight stick handling are requiring higher lies. That said there's always expections, like Patrick Kane with his 102 flex or Datsyuk with his long stick (relative to most).

The AHL and ECHL both have contracts with Reebok-CCM that they exclusively supply all the equipment, skates, sticks, etc for the players. You cannot have any equipment not made by Reebok-CCM due to this contract. Except goalies who I believe they can have Vaughn brand equipment only.
The contract actually expires at the end of this season: http://theahl.com/ahl-reebok-ccm-ext...ership-p142907

In the NHL when agreements such as that one are in place, the players just play with blacked out logos on their non-conforming gear. Does the AHL actually stipulate that all players must use that equipment? Or do they just black it out?

No, you use the equipment that is supplied by Reebok/CCM for the AHL. If you are sent down, they basically get your size and preferences and stock your locker for you for your arrival.
I can't think of anyone who has blacked out gear. I can think of a few NHL'ers with 10+ years in the league who were sent down and typically Bauer wearer's and they were in CCM gear.
EDIT: Sorry, I just thought of one guy who was using a Warrior stick the first couple games down in the AHL. They got that corrected fairly quickly. Heatly I believe uses an Easton sitck, but I think he's got a sponsorship that supercede's the AHL contract.

Yeah it was half tongue in cheek.
As an aside, I heard an interview with the Raven guys, pretty interesting and pretty cools story.

Most of those guys that I've played with/against weigh 200+ lbs, so the 100 flex is just fine

You used to be allowed either three or four exemption players per team but they may have changed that. There is still old vets using other gear once sent down, so maybe it's just for them now e.g., Raymond, Fayne, Kassian, Gagner
On the other hand some change gear immediately upon getting called up, like Granlund with Warrior.

I sent them the link anyway...
They actually had a try-out for Dragon's Den about a week or so ago. Not sure if they've made the cut yet or not...my guess would be they do, but who knows...

Bauer is not going to discontinue Intermediate 67 flex sticks per se. They have just stopped making the Bauer APX2 stick, as the new model, the 1X is the 2016 version. If Johnny is a fan of the vapour line, I presume he would just use that model for next year.
Great video though...awesome!

A 67 junior stick? My God lol. I can't believe he uses that.

Brett Hull used a 62 flex stick. Even scored his 700th goal with one.

The deal was only for gear that was visible when worn with a uniform, IIRC. Elbow pads, shin guards and jock were exempt.

One player per team was permitted to have a stick exemption. If you use a non Hockey Company (CCM/Reebok/The Hockey Company) stick and you go to the AHL it is telling if you rank enough to get the stick exemption.

Actually three players per team are allowed a supplier exemption. They have to be specifically identified on the game sheet.
