For obvious reasons I can't listen to the presser, I am really hoping someone will still recap for users like me.
nm: just saw Resolute's post.

Questions.
-Francis trolling, trying to get Burke to admit the team failed to pull Wideman out despite concussion. Burke got offended.
- Asked about letting players play through appeal, he bluntly said it wasn't something he was interested in supporting.
- Wont seek compensation.

Probably the only amusing part

Burke just not trying to start a fight with the league or the refs. I suppose that works.

I believe Burke is coming up for an interview with Rob and Pat shortly as well on Fan960. Might be more interesting than the presser, maybe not.

Gotcha. Didn't know what your comment was referring to. I thought you were referencing not able to watch the TSN presser outside Canada.

good presser. Didn't start a fight with the league and didn't bite on the questions which obviously tried to get a juicy statement out of him. Seems like they want to put all of this behind them, which is probably the best way to go about this.

Yup. Also makes Bettman look worse if he continues to pursue the matter. The mere fact that the Flames aren't seeking compensation (which they are completely entitled to) should be enough for Gary. But of course, he's going to try and drag this thing out just to get his way.
That, right there, is why I have always hated Bettman. He's never known how to compromise for the benefit of all. 3 lockouts under his tenure says the same.

Please do show me where Goodenow or Fehr were willing to compromise and Bettman wasn't. Go ahead, I'll wait.

am I missing something? I thought the CBA states that the arbitrator's decision is final?

As for the reduction, I still think 10 games is too much - I think it should have been 0, but could have lived with up to 3, maybe 5 games. I think it's pretty obvious that the whole thing was accidental, and at that point, you determine if Wideman accidentally did something illegal (justifying a suspension of a few games), or accidentally did something legal (obviously no suspension can be given). Some have argued that it "looks" intentional, but if that were the case, what's Wideman's motive? Putting all the pieces together, this being an intentional act just doesn't make sense.
Like some above, I'm confused by the arbitor's ruling. I beleive he was only supposed to rule whether the NHLs ruling was within the boundaries of the NHLs law. If the arbitor ruled that there was intention, he shouldn't have been able to reduce the suspension. And if the arbitor thought the NHL didn't follow its rules, he should have thrown the whole thing out.
|
To me it looks intentional, and there's plenty of motive... He just got rocked, and was pissed off, and took it out on someone.
Not sure how you can say that it's obvious that it's accidental. I might as well say that it's obviously intentional.

You're right, nothing to be gained by keeping the fight going at this point. It was a small victory today.
The thing is, Bettman didn't technically do anything wrong (expect make the wrong initial decision of course). The process does need to be fixed though.

Francis is such a moron. Maintaining his stance that Wideman was not concussed.
Shut your trap hole you idiot.

The lockouts ended when Bettman got almost everything he wanted. That's compromise from the NHLPA.
