From your lips to the hockey gods ears. I desperately want to see this team get some solid goaltending for once. It's been 3 seasons of mediocre to below average goaltending.

Toronto is where goalies go to die, I always believed Reimer would be a really good tender anywhere else and so far it looks like that's happening with San Jose. We probably won't be able to afford him this offseason though.

I would imagine Reimer would be asking for around 5 and if even a small bidding war were to start he'll get it.

One thing's for sure, if he comes here, he'll have to change his number.

I agree but at the same time I don't want to see them so hell bent on improving the goaltending situation that they get a marginally better short term fix that hurts us long term. Either wasting assets or a bad contract. I'd prefer another year or so with average tending if it allowed us to find the right tender that can help take this team to the next level.

I was thinking about this the other day, how many teams exactly are going to looking for a starter this summer? Will there actually be a bidding war for Reimer?
CGY
TOR (don't think Reimer wants to sign there)
Who else is looking? Can't really think of any other teams, can anybody else?
PHX may just roll with Domingue. Is Mike Smith UFA there? Can't see the Yotes overpaying for Reimer
If nobody else is really hot and heavy after Reimer we may be able to lowball him a tad.

I don't think it's realistic to expect him to sign here for low dollars and low term. He is a UFA, he will get at least one of those even if he doesn't have that many offers

Which teams will be making offers to him? I can't think of many if any other than us.

Not sure. Codynw mentioned earlier that maybe Calgary & Carolina are the only teams that are in need of a starter. Or like you say, maybe Arizona but time will tell on that one. But really, if its only 2 teams that are in on it thats still minor enough to drive the cost up a million, and I can't see him getting anything less than 4 regardless of term.
Late edit: Just remembered that Carolina has Lack and likely see him as their starter. So ignore the above. We may very well be the only team in on him.

CAR, good catch. Although they may just go with Lack as the starter instead of shelling out for Reimer.

This might be key.
The only teams without an established starter, or a low paid under performing one are Calgary, Toronto and Carolina (Lack hasn't been legendary and Ward is UFA).
Arizona - Mike Smith - Not been good, but signed for 3 more years to big $$
Anaheim - Gibson/Andersen - They need to unload a goalie, not add
Boston - Rask
Buffalo - Lehner
Chicago - Crawford
Colorado - Varlamov
Columbus - Bobrovsky
Dallas - Lehtonen/Niemi
Detroit - Mrazek needs an RFA deal and they need to unload Howard
Edmonton - Talbot
Florida - Luongo
LA - Quick
Minnesota - Dubnyk
Montreal - Price
Nashville - Rinne
New Jersey - Schneider
NY Rangers - Lundquist
NY Islanders - Halak
Ottawa - Anderson
Philadelphia - Mason and Neuvirth
Pittsburgh - Fleury
San Jose - Jones
St. Louis - Elliot and Allen
Tampa Bay - Bishop and Vasilevskiy
Vancouver - Miller and Markstrom
Washington - Holtby
Winnipeg - Pavelec plus they have their golden boy in Hellebuyck
There really shouldn't be too many teams kicking down Reimer's door in free agency, unless some under preforming starting goalies are bought out like Pavelec or Smith.
This is why I won't be the least bit surprised if he's a Flame this summer.

I hope Reimer can be the real deal for the Flames. Considering he held his own in a tougher market I think he can at the very least play to the level of Hiller last season which was good enough to make the playoffs.

I'd be fine with Reimer if the deal made sense but I'd be nervous to roll the dice on him. I imagine he's gonna want at least 3-4 years and if the price tag is 4-5 million I'd be really hesitant. If we could get him for a couple years I think that would be decent but I'm a bit skeptical he would sign for a couple years.

Hiller's stats have absolutely NOTHING to do with how good Reimer is.

Personally, I am not sold on Reimer, notwithstanding he would be an obvious improvement on Hiller. Is he an improvement on Ramo? His underlying numbers are probably better, but I am not sure he is a number 1. He hasn't played 40 games in a year, and didn't seem able to cement himself as a legit starter in TO.

Reimer's injury history is a bit lengthy and plays heavily into game counts. The biggest aspect is probably wanting a comfortable backup goaltender (and arguably a 1A/1B situation) if you go pursue Reimer.
Ramo/Reimer seems reasonable to me if you trust that Ramo has fully recovered and can resume his post-Christmas level play. This could elevate Ramo a little further as Ramo is at his best when he's got another goaltender pushing him (Reimer would slot in either side of that equation). It would probably be a situation similar to Hiller/Ramo last season. But this would leave a question as to where Ortio goes as I think he's at the stage in his career where he needs NHL starts, not AHL ice time. Plus, a younger goaltender who is starting to prove NHL value might be harder to sneak through Waivers than the Ortio from earlier this year.
Alternatively, a more optimistic individual in Ortio might suggest Reimer/Ortio. This would suggest complete trust in Ortio to carry the workload should Reimer suffer another injury/not be as good as advertised. It might be easier to answer this question at the end of the season as Ortio gets more and more starts.

Maybe if Ramo had not gotten injured and had finished the season on the roll he was on, but he's now going to be coming off a long lay off and a major injury. I would hate to put my eggs in that basket.
