I hope the Flames aren't run that way. On merit, Agostino deserves the call up.

Even from an asset management perspective, Agostino should get the look because he is 24 closing in on waivers and they need to see him at the NHL level, while Shinkaruk still has a full year of being waiver free.

I thought the same thing on my first read of the tweet. It's still pretty unclear, even on rereading it. Did Gio take the option to not practice, or is he taking part in the optional practice?

Yeah I understand it as an optional skate is the option to miss it. Gio is a great leader and I can totally agree with you on that!

Hartley adds he doesn’t believe any of the current injuries are serious. Hopeful they’ll be able to play tomorrow. #Flames

With the playoffs out of reach I was hoping this was the case and it was just taking them out of the game to prevent aggravating something. Good to hear!

Held out to avoid the risk of aggravating our draft position perhaps?

Only issue I can see with holding them out for marginal injuries is if they miss out on a bonus - it can cause hard feelings. I have no idea if that's the case.

Brodie can't earn any performance bonuses.

Bennett is currently at 15 goals. He could get a bonus for hitting 20. That's the only performance bonus that is still achievable for him that might be tough to hit if he misses too many games. Of course, he hasn't scored a goal in a month, but in the month before that, he scored 10, so it's difficult to predict how things will end up for him, whether he plays or not.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
"Nothing serious, nothing broken ... But it still might be a few days." - Bob Hartley on the status both on Sam Bennett & TJ Brodie

That's good - was worried about the Bennett shoulder.

Brodie being out allows the Flames to keep Wotherspoon in Calgary. Wideman would replace Brodie without eliminating the emergency.

Not if Engelland is healthy and it looks like he is. The emergency is eliminated as we have 6 healthy defensemen (Gio, Hamilton, Wideman, Jokipakka, Nakladal, Engelland) and Wotherspoon must be demoted.

That is true. I had thought I read that Engelland was still unsure or unlikely for tonight. Too much going on right now. Hard to keep track!

There is another option and that is to convert Wotherspoon to a regular recall, though I doubt they do it. Makes more sense for him to play in Stockton than eat popcorn in the Saddledome.

I wish they waive Bollig and Jooris. Doubt anyone would claim them. Call up Hamilton and Shinkaruk. Id rather see them then these useless plugs.
