Not really since Domi only got 1 game a week ago for essentially the same thing.
Difference is Nurse did damage. Both got 1 game for the instigating in the last five minutes (Nurse didn't get the penalty but they gave him the game). Nurse got the extra two for hurting the guy. That's pretty much the NHL's standing on all of these things - you can make the same illegal hit - but you'll get more games if the guy gets hurt when you do it.
Should have been more, but I thought he'd get a game or two so I guess it's better than nothing. Bush league move by Nurse. That wasn't toughness, that was idiocy.
This is a big precedent. It says that if a player turtles, the aggressor gets a 3 game suspension. I'm all for removing fighting and enforcers from the game, but I can see the precedent angering the pro-fighting crowd.
I'm pro fighting, but very okay with this decision. If a player turtles, or like this case, clearly didn't even see/know that it was going to be a fight until it's too late, then it's not okay to keep swinging. That's not a fight, that's just assault.

I'm definitely in the pro-fighting crowd, and I'm perfectly happy with the suspension, and think it's the perfect length for a 1st offence.
This wasn't a fight, this was mugging a dude who didn't even get his gloves off.
And you know, I think sometimes there can be a time and a place for tuning up a guy, whether he wants to oblige or not.
But in those rare cases, you should do so knowing you're going to eat a multi-game suspension.
I have no problem with this ruling at all.

I know the NHL has to back their officials, but they also have to be held accountable. I'd like to see them suspended as well for their blatant attempt to avoid issuing the suspension themselves. Absolute garbage officiating.
I understand that mistakes are made, and it's a difficult job, but this is not one of those instances. They obviously thought about how to penalize Nurse without having him ejected and suspended.

The biggest difference between the Nurse and Domi situations, is that Domi reacted immediately to something that happened right in front of him. While Nurse deliberately sought out Polak, after Polak had been given an undeserved penalty, to seek retribution. Nurse should have watched a replay to realize what had actually happened and he had the opportunity to do that.

On Nurse.....
Should have been an automatic 1 for instigator in final 5. Add 1 for being aggressor (defenseless opponent), add 1 for injury.
Shannon totally nails it. 3 is more than fair.

Don't see why the pro-fighting crowd would be angered, that wasn't fighting.
Don't see it as a player turtling precedent, saw it as a player jumping a guy when he didn't expect it and beating the crap out of a defenceless player who was trying to protect himself. That shouldn't be in the game even if you like fighting.

I couldn't clearly see what happened for the Polak penalty earlier, the suspension video has a clip of it and it looks like he took Hendrick's skate out with his stick.. did he not hit the skate at all? Curious because the defense I keep getting is Nurse was retaliating for a cheap shot play by Polak.

The tank for 1st pick is on full force. Who is next that KatzMacLowiarrelli asked to do something suspendable? Must be Talbot, he's the only one keeping them in games.
If you think Nurse has anything to do with winning a hockey game, you haven't been paying attention.
anyone defending Nurse, thinking this was 'good', that Edmonton is 'tougher', or complaining about the officiating due to this event.....is seriously out to lunch. it was ugly.

I saw it. Polak didnt cause Hendricks to go down at all. He was just next to him, looked like Hendricks tripped over his own feet. And if the biggest homer in the world, Remenda, says Polak didnt deserve a penalty for it...

Nurse is a complete joke and will be nothing more than a face punching 4-6 Dman. His lack of smarts will expose him as the mediocre player he is. The Oilers should have traded him for Hamilton when they had the chance.
Reinhart and Nurse are absolute garbage. Oilers could have had Ristolinen and Barzal plus the 33rd pick in the last draft. A complete joke of a franchise even with new management. Worst blueline in the league now and for the foreseeable

Matt agrees with you.
