On pace for 82 points in 81 games.
Kid will probably build himself some breathing room for PPG on the season with this long home stand.

He is literally the best player in the NHL on home ice. It would be cool if he went on a tear and got to 90 or something ridiculous like that.
It's a tossup between him and Seguin for the Byng.

Compliments cheese slices in his fridge. He's a Sobey's guy.
I've never enjoyed watching a player as much as Gaudreau.

I love Johnny as much as the next guy.
But the magic that Jarome brought in 2004 will rarely, if ever, be repeated. The combination of skill, grit, and heart was something special during that season. He was the best player in the NHL.

Agreed. Johnny has a boatload of skill, but I have never seen anyone through sure force of will take the team on his back and dominate a game like Jarome could.

I feel like thats something Gaudreau could do at his peak. Hes ALOT better offensively than Iggy was in his second year. Heck his PPG season would be up there with Iggy's best seasons. Yeah he won't physically dominate a game but he can single handedly taken over a game with his creativity.
Kids a talent.

Pump the brakes a little there Polish Kielbasa.
Until he actually becomes the best player in the NHL (which Iggy was), we should all temper our expectations.
Iggy was a special player who basically willed the Flames to a Stanley Cup.

Also, Johnny is at 66 points on the season.
At 68 points sits a three way tie between Seguin, Kuznetsov, Karlsson for 3rd overall in NHL scoring. They've all played 67/68 games to Johnny's 66.
Moving up to 3rd overall in NHL scoring is in striking distance.

Maybe, but Johnny's second season came three years later than Jarome's, so I'm not sure that's a fair comparison

Iggy was a great player for his franchise but let's not pretend he was the one that "willed" the Flames to a finals appearance.
Kipper was probably the biggest reason for that run, Marty being the eliminator. Conroy had a great playoff. Donovan/Neimanen/Nilson creating havoc. Regher and Rhett were massive on the back-end.
It was far from an Iggy show. That was a TEAM, led by Darrell.

Absolutely the whole run was a team effort, but there were many games when you could see the fire in his eyes on the bench and take a team that played 40 minutes of meh hockey and just elevate them. I think the force of will was just seeing him on the ice, pushing through checks, never backing down and imposing himself on the other team.
I'm sure a good part of it is nostalgia, but there are a select few names in hockey that would power to the net to score, turn around and fight the other team's enforcer and then inspire the guys to be better.
Johnny is slick and skilled and will dominate hockey games and has a good chance at winning a scoring title or two, but there was a flame (no pun intended) in Iginla that when he got fired up you knew things were going to happen and it inspired those teams. Kipper would keep them in it, but when it was time to rally the troops they all looked to Jarome.

Iginla was 27 in 2004.
Why don't we wait until 2021 to settle this argument?
