Currently on the bubble on whether to renew. I've taken a 30% cut in pay since last year (along with being out of work for 3 months) and one of my partners has taken 100%. With all the uncertainty, I'm wondering if this is the year to keep my powder dry. If the team was performing better, I would be confident enough about selling tickets if I got in a jam financially but right now they are a bit of a tough sell.
If I do give them up, someone will get to relocate to some great seats.

The future is bright, and it's not that far away. I hope lots of people don't renew this year and I improve my seats significantly.

I always enjoy your posts and find I tend to agree with your views more often than not.
I renewed online the day the email came out. While I would love for Calgary to be a perrrenial playoff contender, the success of their franchise isn't the underlying purpose nor a determining factor of why I go to games. I am a ticket holder because I want to go watch NHL hockey live as I'm a fan. It's a night out for my buddy and I who otherwise devote the majority of our time to our families.
Further, I wanted to have the ability to attend any game I wish without having to grossly overpay on reseller sites. Regardless to how good or bad the Flames ever are, the cost of single games can fluctuate immensely depending on the opponent, with the games 'everyone' wants to see being inflated to ridiculous levels.
I as well hope many folks give up their seats. I'd love to take this rebuild opportunity to fine tune my STH location. I believe the Flames have a good foundation to build around to soon become annual playoff contenders for a healthy number of years. Factor in an eventual announcement of arena plans and it should culminate to being quite the demanding ticket in the not so distant future. There won't be much in the way of relocation in a new arena I imagine, so get it in now while you still can.

I am fairly certain I will renew.
I do have some concerns though.
I may be missing some games down the stretch here. I cannot understand why we continue to hand starts to Hiller and if he is announced the starter for any home games the rest of the way, my seats will be empty. The fans and the team in front of him deserve more.
We need to take the keys away from Hartley. Our power play sucks, our penalty kill sucks and he continually mismanages the goaltenders. I believe he has lost the room. If there are any good coaching candidates out there, we need to be seriously considering them.
In summary. Sit Hiller down. Address the goaltending in the off season. Seriously consider replacing Hartley.

There must be some wealthy people on this forum. $7000 per seat (silver section)? That is absolutely ludicrus. $7000 to watch a mediocre and down right boring product 41 times a year. To each their own obviously, but holy crap.

I was very much on board to renew for next year when the notice came...but after some of these terrible efforts and questionable bench decisions, I am on the fence with what to do.
Will likely take right up until the deadline to make my decision one way or another.

If you are so desperate for an excuse to cancel that you are going to pretend a losing streak is a new thing, just cancel.

As a fan who doesnt have season tickets, I go to about 5 or 6 games a year. Those tickets are usually half feom ticketmaster and half from the resale market. Tickets this season and especially the second half of the season have been very easy and very cheap to get. I have several acquaintances ehi have season tickets that I sometimes buy single game tickets from. Right now you can wait until game day to find tickets and get thise tickets at low prices. Theres likely two reasons. One, the team is not doing well and is also not very entertaining. Two, the economy is affecting the disposable income people have to spend on a night out at a hockey game. Its expensive entertainment.

Those are some of the most expensive seats in the dome. Whites are $3000 per seat, Greens are even less. And of course there are people with seasons in the PLs which are I think like $1200? Also you have to realize that many STH share with friends and family. For example there are 5 people that share my seats and almost everyone I know who has tickets shares them. When you share with a bunch of people, and have reasonably priced seats, and pay monthly - it's pretty manageable.
Won't bother debating about the boring and mediocre product which is subjective.
Lastly - yes there are wealthy people on this forum and in this city. Not sure why that would surprise you.

Also, I think TM Exchange and Stub Hub have a lot more sellers on them as these channels have become more widely adopted. Not just because the team is losing, but because people have caught up with technology.

It was nice to see that they held prices flat - would have been a huge mistake PR-wise to raise them this year.

One of the considerations this year is that often it is difficult to sell your tickets at STH cost. In past years even when we weren't in a playoff position, you could at least get your money back. Combine that with every game being available in HD sometimes you have to wonder if it's worth it.
The main thing that kept me in the "renewal" category is that by sharing tickets with friends, we have set dates where we are all getting together. I've also setup some exchanges with the guys that sit beside us so we can have 4 tickets for a game. With all of us getting older, kids in organized activities, etc- it's nice to know that on X date we both have to put those things on hold for our game.

Are any STHs frustrated in paying 3X what people pay in CAR or FLA, or PHO for the same product? And that you are subsidizing their bargain hobby?

No, because I am smart enough to realize my market is different than theirs, and that your trolling for a reaction is not helpful.

They made a big deal out of not raising prices for next season on Sportsnet last night.
I'm not a STH, but honestly the move doesn't impress me that much. If they really wanted to show community spirit and helping those who have come upon hard times, why not LOWER the STH renewal pricing by 10% ?
Then I would be impressed.

Yeah agreed. I laughed out loud when they started talking about them not raising prices cause they painted it like they were making some great sacrifice for struggling Albertans.
They didn't raise their prices, what heros....

Yeah, if they were decent Albertans, they'd give us the damn tickets for free!
