That's a stupid thing to say IMO. You should have some doubt about it.

Nope, none at all. He's not an every day NHLer and why 2 teams have already given up on him and he hasn't improved in the areas which are keeping him from being a good player in all 3 zones.
I said the same thing about Rene Bourque, Glencross, and Butler and was laughed at on another board. And all three are out of the league right now. I'll even put it in my signature that's how confident I am. Colborne isn't good, not as a third liner or fourth liner. He would be if he was consistent and played like he did yesterday more than once every 5-10 games. He's had his chances, he's 26 not 19 anymore.

Alrighty then. Very much disagree. Colborne is big enough and skilled enough that he's going to get a lot of chances to put it all together whether it's with us or not. He's definitely improved since he first joined the Flames so its not unreasonable to think he'll continue to slowly improve. I get frustrated with him at times and want to give up on him but perhaps patience is still the route to go. Certainly I don't think Treliving is hesitant to move him if we get good value. But he's a cheap guy with upside and size, not a bad guy to be throwing out there on your 3rd line.

You think you're the only one who thought Bourque, Glencross and Butler were trash?
Delusional or memory loss? Or both?
By the way Bourque is still in the NHL...

The 26 was to highlight the difference between Colborne and Glencross, IINM.

Does this guy have weird photos of a bunch of GM's or something?
Since he was moved to Montreal in 2012 he has a total 84 points and made over $16 million...amazing.

You do realise that Colborne is 2 points away from tying his career high right? If you have a 3rd liner(which is what he is) making just over $1m and they put up 30 points, thats a player that is worth keeping. There is literally zero evidence to support your statement that he'll be out of the league within 12 months. He isn't a declining vet on the wrong side of 30 like Glencross or Bourque. He's 26(and only turned 26 in January). He's made 28 points in the last 2 seasons and will likely make 30+ by the end of this season. If thats a player you want to be rid of, you name me another that you can guarantee will put up 30 points on a $1.275m contract and I'll take them.

Now two non player centric threads have now spawned Colborne discussions..
He needs to take a step forward next season. He's been an NHL 3rd line caliber player since his benching a couple months back. He's been money in the shootout. But he needs to continue it while improving in other areas including physicality next season and beyond to be worthwhile longterm.

A lot of minor leaguers could have easily beat that. He must have a damn good agent.

Colborne's already taken steps forward in many areas - faceoffs, scoring, physicality, just not to the extent we were hoping for. He's played badly when he's trying to do too much (top 6 winger Joe Colborne). On the other hand, when he keeps the play simple (bottom 6 grinder Joe Colborne) the points start rolling in.
2013-14 - 80GP, 10G 18A - 28P
2014-15 - 64GP, 8G 20A - 28P
2015-16 -56GP, 11G 15A - 26P
He's on track for a career year. Furthermore, his shots, shooting % and faceoffs are showing steady progress as well.
Joe is just fine in that 3rd line caliber support role because he can do it well, and he's got the size and hands for it. It sounds to me as if certain posters expect him to bloom fully into that top 6 power winger role, and feel disappointment when things aren't going on track. Just remember, despite Hartley feeding him top 6 minutes, he's not quite ready for that role and shouldn't be playing such.
In Hartley's shoes who else would you have up there? Raymond? AHL. Jooris? Great energy but little in terms of driving offence. Hathaway? Good physicality but an absolute muffin of a shot. Ferland? Fell into a bit of a slump lately.

I've come around on Colborne. First 30 games: Was trash. Since 2016ish: been much better. Looks like a good 3rd liner now.
Also: The whole penalty thing is just a coincidence and a result of changing style of play. We traded Granlund, then the Lady Byng winner Hudler, then Russell, have demoted Raymond and Wideman is out. These were all low penalty and softer players. Now Jooris and Bollig are in the lineup every night and the roster has added Hathaway, Kevin etc. The team is no longer small or soft. Bigger teams and physical guys don't get the calls.

I'm glad most are done trashing Colborne. I think he still has potential and will end up as a elite 3rd liner. We just have to be patient. bigger guys take a lot longer to develop in most cases.

Also it will be funny if we end up having a piece from the Phaneuf trade longer than Toronto does.

Stajan was signed before the tragedy.
And I don't think a buyout is an unclassy move. He'll still get 2/3rds of his salary and can sign somewhere else to make up the rest if he's willing to play for a lesser salary.

Do we have any sign, whatsoever, that the organization isn't perfectly happy having Stajan part of the team?

Nope, just fan angst. I get it. I have players I want gone too. Stajn is one of them. But maybe the 4th line C the Flames are developing isn't ready yet (Arnold)

He has been scratched on occasion.
But no they haven't come out and said they don't want him. But if you are scratching a guy with a $3.125 million dollar cap hit who's going to be no better than your 4th line centre for the next two years - its something to be considered.
