Mangiapane with 1 G and a -1 in a 6-2 loss to Sarnia; he had 3 shots on goal and 2 pims

Andersson added an assist (2nd assist on a PP to make it 3-2) and was a -2; he fired 1 shot on goal

Rasmus Andersson is 2nd in OHL defensemen scoring with 7 goals 46 assists for 53 points.

Interesting to note that draft eligible Mikhail Sergachev is 3rd with 14 goals 31 assists for 45 points.

Also interesting to note that draft eligible Jakob Chychrun is 4th with 10 goals 34 assists for 44 points.

If we don't draft a forward then we're drafting one of those two d-men IMO.

Karnuakhov with 1g 1a in a 4-3 win over Swift Current.

A total of 188 PIMs were handed out. Karnuakhov had a fight. Kanzig got a 10 minute misconduct, but no other notable stats.

Mangiapane and Andersson end the game with 2a and were even and +2 respectably.

It was a very confusing game following along on the OHL app. Mangiapane had a goal taken away and turned into an assist. That assist was then taken away completely and given to another player. He also had another primary assist taken away entirely. What should have been a 1g3a/4a night was reduced by half. Apparently the stats guy updating the app either can't figure out jersey numbers on the scoresheet, or Mangiapane had some pretty bad string of luck.

Mangiapane had 2a and was +3 and Andersson had 1a and was +3. It appears an assist was taken from each of Andersson and Mangiapane again.

Andersson has 7g 49a good for 56 pts in 58 gp.
Mangiapane has 44g 44a good for 88 pts in 52 gp.

Another 3 assists tonight... Kid is on fire and now sits 7th in Ohl scoring with 88 points -- 44 g & a!

He's also just 5 goals back from Dvorak to lead the league in goals!

You know who is a good comparable for Mangiapane IMO?

Mathieu Perreault.

Both had 52 points in their draft year before going on to put up 100+ point seasons the next 2 years. (or on pace)

Yes Eatbread plays with Kevin Leblanc, but Perreault played with Thomas Beauregard who also was a dominant JR player.

Perreault put up a little bit better #'s (just under 2ppg) but the Q was a much higher scoring league back then.

I know lots of overages do well, but is there a history of overagers getting 100+ points and not making it? Seems he's doing better than just "well"

He's not even an overager. Next year he would be. I'd like the people who right him off to show me players who put up 100+ points in his draft +1 and +2 year and had insignificant careers. I have been able to find a few but not "lots".

Mangianpane doesn't turn 20 until a month from now, he isn't an overaged player. He wasn't drafted until this summer, but he isn't an overaged player in the CHL this season.

I voted for him at 10th on the polls last year. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=148090

I don't know if he's necessarily passed anyone (Granlund/Shinkaruk are an even swap and Bennett graduated) and Kylington has probably passed him, but I do know that he hasn't disappointed this year and it's nice to see him rising on peoples' lists.

I'm not writing him off but people are right to have a healthy amount of skepticism.

What you asked to show is a difficult task without having a benchmark for “Significant career”. Using a three year window ranging from 07-08 through to 09-10 (In order to give them enough time to have cracked the NHL and established something of a career) the following players have had an insignificant career (followed in brackets by those that have had NHL careers)…

OHL: Justin Azevedo, Brett Maclean, Luca Caputi, Jack Combs, Michael Swift. (Has had a career and got 100+ points in his draft eligible +1/+2: Chris Terry)

WHL: Mark Santorelli, Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Brett Sonne, Brandon Kozun, Jordan Weal. (Has had a career and got 100+ points in his draft eligible +1/+2: Jordan Eberle)

QMJHL: Francis Pare, Cedric McNicoll, Yannick Riendeau, Dany Masse. (Has had a career and got 100+ points in his draft eligible +1/+2: Mathieu Perrault, Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek).
