With the win, the Flames leapfrog both the Oilers and Jets and go from 29th overall to 27th.

Somehow, the Flames have 2 games in hand on the Oilers, but the Jets have 2 games in hand on the Flames (one of which they make up tonight).

Right now, the 6 non-playoff teams in the West are Colorado, Vancouver, Arizona, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Edmonton. The 4 Canadian teams and the 2 teams who used to play in Canada.

Maybe a stupid question, but was Ortio an emergency call-up? If yes, does that mean we have to send him down when Backstrom is ready? Can they convert him to a regular call-up and just keep him?

Hope we play him and sit Hiller the rest of the way. See what you have.

He is an emergency but I think they will just convert it to a regular if they haven't already.

Mark Giordano ties Phil Housley & Dion Phaneuf for 4th most 40-point seasons by a Dman in #Flames history (4). Al MacInnis owns most with 11

Great game. This is probably the first game this season where we haven't seen the Flames sit back after getting the lead. Yes, Pittsburgh pushed back, but the had to work for their space all games. I hope they keep this up.

I hope Monahan can improve his skating next year. He's lack the explosive acceleration he needs and is behind the play way to often in the offensive zone as a result. In many ways reminds me of how Backlund's skating regressed after a couple years in the league as he got heavier and stronger before eventually getting it back.

Crazy that Backs was centering our fourth line today. I don't even mind Bollig when he's out there with Backlund TBQH.

A Win For Oreo!

Great anomoly game. High energy matinee game? Solid D throughout? Unlikely goal scorers like Bouma? Good times!

Great game. Ortio goves the team a chance to win, again.

Nice to see the Flames work ethic return.

Fair enough, though he did spend a few shifts out with Bollig.

FWIW, Ortio is now up to a .908 since his callup. Still .895 on the season... that Montreal debacle where he didn't get a mercy pull is definitely hurting him.
