I think all the jerseys look great. I'd like a little bit more color on the U23 jersey, but other than that, they a look slick.

Late to the party, but I'm not a fan of Crawford over Luongo.

Does the NHL not realize there are not 20,000 people lining up to spend a minimum of $1500 to sit in the nosebleeds? This is why ticket sales are stagnant and announcing the roster in part now wont help.

Who they picked as the third goalie is important enough to complain about.

For the 2004 World Cup, the teams all pretty much used the same jerseys from the 2002 Olympics, which were made by Nike, so there wouldn't have been a problem using the IIHF logos.
It could also be the NHL not wanting to have to share any merchandise revenue with the national federations who own the logos.
|
The 2016 World Cup isn't an IIHF sanctioned tournament so there would be no reason for the NHL to not grab as much revenue from that they could? Using uniforms of the national governing bodies for hockey takes away revenue from the NHL and gives it to IIHF member countries. It is as simple as that.

In other news, the big debate ongoing on Vancouver radio today is whether or not Chris Tanev will receive any attention for this roster. He is, after all, arguably the best Canadian defensive defenseman.

I guess they have short memories.
There was a LOT of talk last year that Tanev was as good as Brodie.
Then the teams met in the playoffs and everyone watched it unfold with Brodie being arguably the best player on either team and Tanev being... a good defeneman.
Since then, the "Tanev is as good as Brodie' talk had been non-existent, until now at least.

National Pride
Would have loved a CANADA-B instead of a NA-u23. There are more Canadian players than any other country by a wide margin. Preserves national pride. Gives Canadians a 'favorite' team and an 'underdog' team to cheer for.

Actually think it makes sense out of respect to Luongo as well.
Luongo is a veteran and should only really be going if he expects to be playing some games. With Price and Holtby as your clear top two it makes sense to take a bit of a newer face to international play to get him some experience and be your practice goalie, instead of making Luongo do the hard work in practice without any games.
I actually think if Price can't go then you see Holtby as your starter, and Lou gets added to the team as your defacto number 2 with Crawford remaining the 3rd goalie.

It wouldn't surprise me if Luongo was relieved not to be added. He's having a great season, but he's got his medals and I'm sure would prefer to have as much of his summer as possible.

I don't think they're in the championship game, which is at best 3rd place.
Not going to bet on losing every game by 3, c'mon.

Well, that is hardly the definition of "smoked". You are talking about potentially a single OT loss in the whole tournament. That could happen to any team, no matter how good.
Like I said, this Canadian lineup—which went undefeated in the 2014 Olympics—is arguably the best int'l hockey team ever assembled. And yet, as good as this team was they realistically could have lost their semi-final game against Team USA. All it took would have been a fortunate bounce for the other team.
So, no. You don't really believe your first statement.

Not sure why they named three goalies, since chances are Price won't end up playing. Why not leave more flexibility, and avoid any chance of annoying Luongo or whoever they didn't pick.

You realize the tournament is in 6 months, right? What makes you think Price won't be ready by then?

They talked with Price and MTL management before naming Price. Obviously they think he'll play.

Also, if Price is not available due to injury, they can just replace him with someone else

I'm glad Canada didn't use Hockey Canada's logo. I'm getting sick of that logo being everywhere. I prefer just the red and white Canadian maple leaf.
They should go back to that for future tournaments but Hockey Canada is all about the money so they'll be back for the WHC and WJCs.

There's no better jersey than the Canada 2010 Olympic jerseys.
