The far left (mostly youth) is becoming almost militant, especially in the online space, and just as much of a problem as the far right. No criticism or discussion allowed.

I'm not seeing any of that in this thread. I'm seeing one incoherent and non-articulate argument that is humorous and absurd. Then I'm seeing a bunch of people piling on the overall derpiness of it all. Then I'm seeing some sensitive anti-liberal sentiment, generalizing, and overall butt-hurtiness.

I find CP to be actually pretty reasonably centrist and a great mechanism to call people out for intrenched partisan beliefs. It is also a great place to have reasonable discussion, but not when it starts with that OP.

Bunch of other people: yeah

Smart guy2: uh you realize that the conservatives made the child tax credit taxable right? And yes they raised taxes but not in the tax bracket you are currently sitting in
Guy1: incoherent complaining about ndp

Don't worry, you won't be seeing any 'militant' youth. Way too lazy for that.

Care to list all the amazing things Stephen Harper did for the West? Oh wait, he too pandered non-stop to Quebec and Ontario. Politics in Canada is no different than anywhere else, you pander to where the votes are. Unfortunately Alberta will never matter to winning an election, and Ontario and Quebec always will. Such is Canadian politics.

Very true, but also not related to this thread. That was just a bad, incoherent post.

I feel that it's both ways, really. These days it feels like no one is allowed to waver on their opinions on things, and must defend their view to the bitter end. To concede a point is to be a failure, or something. It's depressing.

I find people are much easier to talk to about these particular topics in person, where common sense is a little easier to come by and a rational discussion is more likely.

Just my opinion, though!

Apparently, I "never sleep".

How mocking an incoherent rant turns into CP being lamented as a hotbed of in-all-but-name-communists baffles me. Some people's axes are, apparently, never sharp enough that some more grinding isn't needed.

dislike Notley, a lot

love Brad Wall

voted Trudeau, have big regrets about that.

But that OP is an incoherent mess.

I think CP is actually very good source for a whole spectrum of opinions. I don't know if I would call the far left "militant" if you meant literally willing to pick up arms and fight. If you mean advocates for harsh changes to the overall system, sure.

You have people like me (I would consider myself one of the further left posters if most political threads are any indication), all they way to Nobama, and most are somewhere inbetween. As far as numbers, there are probably more on the right than the left (by Canadian standards), but the few left-leaning posters are pretty vocal.

Overall there is great discussion that goes on here, this terrible OP notwithstanding.

You are ASSUMING Trump will be "catastrophic". You have zero to base that on other than your own opinion. Just because he is not a career politician doesn't make him an idiot. In my opinion we need real change in government, not the promise of that by a career politician who just carries on status quo.
The big issue is that Trump knows how to get the vote of the poor. There are more Americans living in poverty than there are middle and upper class Americans. That means he can get the majority of the vote by catering to these people and their beliefs. He will say any outlandish thing he can to get these votes, regardless if he believes in them or plans to act on them.

It's funny that Americans think other countries don't know what they're talking about regarding Trump, as if we don't have the exact same access to articles, discussions and debates that they do.

Canadians are more into American politics than Canadian politics. We know that Trump is a greedy immoral billionaire. Many Americans are voting for Trump because he's not a corrupted politician. If you think the average politician is corrupt, I guarantee the average billionaire businessman is more-so. These businessmen are the ones giving millions to politicians to bend to their will in the first place. Trump probably thinks he'll save some money this way.

And regarding the OP, damn I'm embarrassed by how many rednecks we have in Alberta. It's vocal idiots like these that make the rest of Canada think we're hicks who wasted all our money on ATVs, don't care about the environment and deserve to be in the rut that we are currently in.

I dont know what you're talking about, this is great.

Its so rare to get a thread that is genuinely full on crazy. Its good to get it out there sometimes.

It'd be great entertainment if you didn't know that people were actually serious about it. It's like watching the American public talk about Trump. It's funny until you realize that these idiots are actually casting ballots.

As for the OP:

(and yes, I did forgo funnier GIFs for the soccer one, as I'm sure the OP thinks it's for nancy-boys and will enrage them further)

Wait, so you post something critical about a politician and some people present a different opinion than yours? The audacity!

Also, I'm calling shenanigans on CP being a left-leaning board. I'm probably one of the furthest left people here and even I register pretty firmly centre-left on any kind of political scale. I guess if you're pretty far to the right, the board would probably look to be more left-leaning.

We should have polls setup for US elections similar to Canadian election. I'd like to see who would vote for Drumpf.
