Mildly surprised at Vlasic. Wouldn't be my choice but I get it.
I would have been shocked if Hamilton were named. He's in the mix almost by default but I don't think he makes the team.

I see a Gaudreau team NA white and any Flame who makes team Canada red in my future. If no Flames make the team ... probably a Toews.
Also, I think those Europe jerseys are solid. I think they're all solid, actually.

"Smoked"?
No. The group that won Olympic gold in 2014 was arguably the best int'l hockey team ever assembled. If they don't win this tournament, I will be shocked. The oldest player named to the prelim group is Duncan Kieth, who will be 33-years-old at the start of the tournament. He is coming off of anchoring his NHL team's most recent Stanley Cup win. To characterise this group as old and slow is ridiculous.

I agree that the 2014 Sochi team basically walked all over everyone. It's not really reflected in the scores, but I remember being in awe of how they dominated every game in the medal round.
That team 2 years older? I'd take that any day.

Wow they really must want the under 23 team to fail. I mean if there is one team in the league who has proven they can't do anything with a pile of young talent it's the front office of the oilers.

Canada jersey pretty ugly IMO.
My favourite is probably the 2010 ones from the Vancouver olympics.

Giroux should have been on over Carter, IMO. Only thing that stands out to me with that Canadian roster.

So are those stripes down the side going to be a thing for the new NHL jerseys as well? I kind of like them but I have a feeling I'm in the minority. Seems like most people like retro looking jerseys.

The under 23 team confuses me. Is this a seperate tournament after the main one? Gaudreau can still make team USA right?

Nope.
If a player is under 23 and from North America they can't play for USA or Canada.

Wow that's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. So not really a best on best tournament.

Bold statement, care to put some money behind it? I'm sure many here would bet against you that "Team Canada is going to be smoked". Does your wallet actually believe that statement? Somehow I doubt it.

I thought it was just the case that U23 gets first crack.
Not that any player that didn't make the U23s would actually have a chance of making TC or USA

Yeah I worded it poorly due to the high likelihood that if you don't make the U23 team you really aren't going to be making USA or Canada.

With the addition of team North America and Europe I find the whole tournament a little weird. I like the fact some of the young and up in coming stars get to participate but whose going to cheer for them? These international tournaments have traditionally been about national pride for players and fans. The players on these multinational teams don't have that flavour. It's just kind of strange.

So why wouldn't they leave off Gaudreau or McDavid off the u23 team then? What a crappy gimmick tournament.
