People need to ask themselves how the Flames/Wild got Backstrom to waive his NTC. I bet they did it by promising him some starts if he's fit. If he is in a condition to play, he'll dress. I'd have no issue with him starting a couple of games to see what he looks like.

Saw alot of people here asking if Backstrom moght het some starts.

Buckle up kids because if anyone caught the pregame show on Sportsnet Hartley was quoted that he will see some starts 100% in the next 19 games.

The season is essentially done for them anyways so why not? Hell Tim Tomas wss in his very late 30s when he got the Bruins to anuwhere near the finals.

Roll the dice and let them land where they may.

What the hell is the point of giving a broken goalie who hasn't played in a year some starts? Does he have compromising pictures of King or something?

Snatching defeat from the jaws of at least a tie, for the win.

Probably just being fair/nice. It's not like it matters at this point. Ortio isn't desperate for games and Hiller just sucks on average. It'll be nicer for Bäckström to get some actual games in before retirement.

That's nice.

Committed to better chances at better draft picks.

Just good karma with FAs really. Plus it can't hurt the tank.

You never know, Backstrom could be the second coming of Thomas or Roloson. Old goalie with no business still playing but can pull off a season of miracles.

Green text sort of applies.

I was told the only reason he waived his NTC was if he was promised playing time so he will start at least a game down the stretch.

If the report is true that Backstrom waived his NTC b/c he was promised some starts, then it's a matter of honouring the agreement for the Flames. Failing to do so would eventually get around the league and the next time something like that came up the player might think twice about it.

Good move for the Flames to get something for Jones - it helps them and Backstrom doesn't hurt them.

Flames have nothing to lose as it's a classy move and Hiller and Ortio will not be back next season so it matters not if they play. Backstrom has had a very nice career and it's nice that the Flames are giving him the opportunity to go out on his own terms rather than get the Toronto treatment where he's sent home.

Pretty early to be saying Ortio will not be back next season. I think it's more likely he is back than isn't.

Our starter has vertigo and the backup is doing great with his zero wins and .889 sv%, I'd be trying out every goalie possible if the starter is the worst in the league and has vertigo. Tough to do worse than vertigo or zero wins.
