Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that's "generally recognized as safe,"
....
researchers have found no definitive evidence of a link between MSG and these symptoms. Researchers acknowledge, though, that a small percentage of people may have short-term reactions to MSG. Symptoms are usually mild and don't require treatment.
... Just like Gluten will be in a couple years when all the moms find something else to moan about.

Big Daddy. Watched it on the weekend. It's 40% or lower on any critic site. It's not some brilliant film, but as far as Sandler goes, I'd definitely say it's one of his best. Has some of the best supporting characters and some heart-felt moments. I think it gets a bad rap.
I agree. They are both awesome. Anyone who eats gluten free knows gluten is the part that makes food awesome. Otherwise it's cardboard. Why anyone voluntarily does that is beyond me. I think some people also legitimately get headaches from MSG, but otherwise there is no good reason to avoid it.

Fun Fact, you are wrong!

Does “glutamate” in a product mean it contains gluten?
No—glutamate or glutamic acid have nothing to do with gluten. A person with Celiac disease may react to the wheat that may be present in soy sauce, but not to the MSG in the product.
Ya, I think there is a lot of confusion around that one. I also get people telling me Budweiser is fine, because it's brewed with rice! Ya, sure ti is...and Barley, if you keep reading the ingredients, dumbass.

When I was dating this girl my dad once made pasta for dinner knowing she'd be coming over, and had known her for a long time at this point.

I know two people who legitimately can't eat gluten. One is Celiac, the other... probably should keep allergy medication on hand (but doesn't).
I get migraines on occasion from eating MSG. I still consume it. Pop an Advil afterwards if it's bad enough.
Hmm interesting. My ex who was a Celiac told me MSG had gluten. But this was before there was a lot of research and people clinging to the fad.
MSG is just salt (Mono-Sodium) and Glutamate (which is the most abundantly occurring amino acid, which are components of proteins).
Glutamate is a common amino acid, and it's not capable of triggering an allergic reaction. Some people complain of headaches and fatigue from it.
However, virtually every double blind test on MSG has shown that it in no way causes any kind of symptoms when consumed in normal levels with food. Adding MSG to food hasn't been shown to be any more dangerous than adding table salt.
I feel sick about 99% of the time I eat Chinese food. I can usually handle one plate, but the second plate combined with stuffing into my mouth individual pieces of ginger beef, sweet and sour pork and fried squid while serving myself the first and second plate and while cleaning up usually puts me over the edge and I feel like crap. Thus MSG must be making me feel sick.

Or it's because you ate too much.

You don't get a migraine if Advil cures it. You get a mild headache.
Migraines can produce a variety of symptoms in different people. Advil will work on the pain type symptoms.
My migraines cause no pain, but inhibit my ability to process things. I have trouble with speech/hearing and I get visual disruptions. Other people will get nausea, dizziness, depression, etc. Advil won't help with these types of symptoms.
