You don't have to hate someone to be racist.

The reasons behind their racist policies are irrelevant if the policies themselves have obvious racist outcomes. Impact matters more than intent.

Yeah, we completely disagree on this point, at a first-principles level. And I'm pretty confident you'd be unable to square this consequentialism with your other views if we did get into that debate. But it's a discussion for the Ethical Philosophy Thread, not the US Politics Thread.

I tend to be more of a "kingdom of ends" type than a pure consequentialist, so I'd be curious to hear how you think my position here doesn't fit that, but you're probably right about cluttering up this thread.

Back to actual US politics, campus carry laws are having some immediate effects. Here's a slide from a faculty lecture about how to respond to this change:

Yeah, this is sure sounding like it'll be a good thing for the free exchange of ideas on campus and in no way will it chill expression! Good job Texas.

^Super Tuesday. If Bernie is sitting here in 12 hours having won his home state, his neighbor state and nothing else, he's should probably stop his run there. And this is against a remarkably unliked opponent. If you can't do better than that, you almost certainly can't win anything. Cruz has had most of his base stolen by Trump, so if he wins his home state, so what? He's already lost 2 states he should have won if his base was with him, but they're gone to Trump.

Donald's fascination with the size of his hands is just bizarre.

He raised his hands, staring at them and turning them over, before waving them at the crowd. “I never heard that one before. I’ve always had people say, ‘Donald you have the most beautiful hands.'”

It's any criticism he gets. There's basically a formula for it now: "xxxx said this about me. That's not true. Look at my xxxx. People always tell me how amazing my xxxx is."

As a non-American, I just want to see Clinton crush Sanders supporters hopes and dreams tonight so I can read all about the young, militant left, ultra progressives drowning in pools of their own tears tomorrow AM. It looks like it might be a slow day in the office tomorrow but that would keep me occupied and entertained all day long.

I'm hoping for the opposite because I can't stand Hillary and I want to see her hopes and dreams of becoming the first woman President crushed.

That's some excellent fear mongering on behalf of the hoplophobes in charge of such notices, but since CC holders are not murdering people they have disagreements with in 95% of other public places in Texas where it is legal to CC, I'm going to have to take "butt hurt faculty shaping public opinion for 200$ Alex".

JFC 5% of CC holders are murdering people in CC legal public spaces? Where are all these brave heroic CC holders shooting the other CC holders?

I pray for the US.

Let's say that Hillary wins the Democratic nomination.

Let's also say that Trump wins the Republican nomination.

Given that young people typically don't turn out to vote, let's also say that 75% of Sanders' supporters---the "young, militant left, ultra progressives"--- decide to just stay home on election day.

Do you honestly think that, on election day, Hillary's supporters---the mostly older women and a few older men, and various minority groups---will outnumber those of Trump's?

I don't.

Because angry people are incentivized to vote. As are those who absolutely do not want the opponent to win. And both of those groups are tremendous populations that Hillary has to overcome in order to win.

Meh, he's raking in a ton of money. What else is he going to do with it other than keep running and speaking his mind?

And if he can highlight Hillary's inconsistencies and deficiencies while doing so, all the better in my view.

95% of places where it is legal to CC, the other 5% being the super effective gun free zones.

According to the anti gun rhetoric, we should see a spate of shootings in Texas post secondary schools now, correct?

It's almost like the people who drafted that nonsense only live in the school and do not exist in any other public space.

If the response is, "maybe not, but just in case let's avoid talking about subjects that could get people riled up", that isn't particularly good for the atmosphere of a higher learning institution. Particularly given the fact that... well, have you SEEN the kind of #### that goes on on American campuses? A large chunk of these kids come across like they have borderline personality disorder. The average prof is rationally fearful of expressing the wrong opinion whether there are guns around or not! This cannot help matters.

I agree. I can't stand her either. If you want more war, more global instability and more of the status quo, then Hellary is your man.

There is a good chunk of me that believes Biden will be the nominee.

I think the DNC will dump her, either because the FBI indicts her or the FBI leaks documents because an indictment won't be pursued at Justice. They may even dump her anyway - regardless of what the FBI does - if it appears that she won't win against Trump becaue of all of her baggage.

If push comes to shove Biden will come in and save the day for the Democratic Party. I see him beating Trump and then nominating O'Bama for the Supreme Court.
