They assigned him there temporarily, he didn't play for Stockton last night.

That is how they got him to the east coast without officially calling him up. Assigned him to the ECHL Adirondack.
LA used to do something similar when Ontario was there ECHL affiliate and Manchester was their AHL affiliate. They would send a prospect they knew they were going to call up to the NHL to Ontario and then call him up to the NHL when they needed him. Instead of having to fly from the Atlantic coast overnight, the prospect was 45 minutes away in Ontario when they needed him.

Oh, so he was technically assigned to Adirondack, which justified flying him across the country without officially recalling him.
Demote Hathaway and Kulak and fly them from Stockton to Philadelphia, which just happens to be on the way to Glens Falls, then recall Hathaway from the ECHL to Calgary, and send Kulak back to the AHL.
Clever.

He'll probably fill in Jones' role, which I like. Garnet was a close second behind Jones on my list of favourite Flames, and I really like Hathaway's game.

I could be wrong but was Ontario not their affiliate in California? Ontario Reign

Yes Ontario Reign was their ECHL affiliate for years. They converted it to their AHL affiliate this year for the AHL California division.

If Agostino was a RW, he'd be first call-up.

Hopefully not Jones' most recent role alongside Monahan and Gaudreau!

Hathaway is good. Take Jooris' tenacity on the forecheck, Ferland's strong body, and Bouma's heart and soul and you get him.

I either read or heard an interview with Huska in the last month and Van Brabant was singled out by the coach as having had a strong year. I hope we get a look at him as well.

Surprisingly, Bryce Van Brabant may be the 'one' who becomes a Calgary Flame according to a Stockton Heat podcast I heard last week.

per the AHL transactions page Ortio and Wotherspoon were "paper" assigned to Stockton making them eligible for the AHL playoffs and to be assigned to the AHL after the trade deadline.
interesting enough Nakladal wasn't added to the AHL roster before the trade deadline (or at least the paper transaction isn't showing up on the AHL website at this time) which means he will be up for the rest of the season

Interesting how some people have commented "Huska doesn't know what's he doing and should be fired" because the Heat are bad in the standings (more due to a lack of vets)
yet each of the players that have been recalled, none having a particularly outstanding season stat wise, have played awesome at the NHL level once they were recalled. If he plays like regularly, Hathaway will become a fan favourite in no time. I am hoping the trio continues to play well over the last 20 games.

So there's lots of good players in Stockton but the team sucks anyways.
And you're wondering why we are complaining about the coach?

Ortio was pretty terrible until recently as well.

The job of an AHL coach is not to win games, but to develop players. If there are lots of good players in Stockton, it doesn't matter a rat's arse to the Flames whether the Heat win or lose.

Exactly. Not to mention the farm team had some goaltending woes as well. Can't wait to see a healthy Gillies next season.

Thought Hathaway had a great game. Tonnes of speed and persistence. Thought he was waning a bit towards the end, but still brought a good game.
As for who is next - I wonder who on the list it may be. I wonder if they will give guys who are the most deserving (Hamilton, Agostino), draft pedigree (Poirier, Klimchuk), or guys on expiring contracts that they want a better in evaluating whether to re-sign (Arnold, ??).
