[Trade] David Jones to Wild for G Niklas Backstrom and a 2016 6th round pick

A fourth/fifth for Jones was kind of what I would expect. Sized and scoring for playoffs. Then take a contract and more money to get a pick? This better somehow help minny take Chicago out so Dallas can advance to the conference finals. That's they only positive angle I see here. Jones has been hired to take out Kane.

Did you happen to notice all the Ufa forwards who didn't get moved as the all today. This was the market.

I really like that the fact that BT is on par with all of the fans and realized that none of our UFAs this year should be in the long-term plan for this team (Hudler, Jones, Russell). Now we can focus on signing Monahan and Gaudreau (I am really not sure about Colborne or Jooris though) and hopefully next year we can get rid of more in Smid, Engelland, Raymond, Wideman, Stajan, etc.

I think we should definitely go after Milan Lucic or Louis Erikkson in the off-season and start the season with:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Lucic/Eriksson-Bennett-2016 1st Round Pick
Bouma-Backlund-Frolik
FA Signing-Arnold-Agostino

that's what I like most about this trade. Let's give auditions to some young guys and see if they are good enough. Makes way more sense than having Jones in the lineup for the twilight of his Flames career.

If you do a favour that doesn't really hurt your team, then maybe you can get a favour back in a year or two that helps your team.

In management's eyes, Jones is worth so little to this team that they'd rather just have the spot open for a prospect. I agree with them, these last few months are going to be an audition and they don't need to waste time analyzing David Jones.

Because a 6th has value going forward and Treliving (and obviously 29 other GMs) feels that Jones doesn't have much.
