I think Jokipakka's actual quote was that he hoped a meteor hit Calgary before he had to report.

I have to say I don't really mind this trade for Dallas either. Jokipakka apparently was probably gone anyway, Pollock seems like a fodder prospect that's nice to have around but not someone you'll miss, and the Flames were certainly going to get at least a 2nd rounder.

The conditional 1st is really the only thing that seems like overkill, but I guess they figure that if they make the conference finals and Russell plays at least 50% of the games, by definition he can't be that bad. I don't necessarily agree with that logic, but I can imagine that conversation making sense.

But they could end up paying a 1st rounder for a bottom pairing guy that's a regular healthy scratch just because the rest of their team is good. Seems weird to me.

Then again Russell is a mobile D-man with playoff experience that can put up some points. Sounds good when you put it that way.

Jokipakka doesn't sound happy on fan 960.

To be fair that was the only thing posted before any thing else was...

Relax jets fan.

Jokipakka sounds like they traded his dog to Edmonton too.

Why do they even bother with interviewing Jokipakka? The guy is down and english is not his first language. Do they think this is going to be radio gold?

Flames should have blocked him from taking any interview requests.

Gotta feel bad for the guy, but as it's been said already, it probably came as a big shock to him, and it's his first time experiencing this.

Jokipaka sounds like my father in-law did when he found out I was going to marry his daughter.

Probably because he has to get interviewed by Steinberg and Francis.

People are way overreacting about Jokipakka's reaction. He's a young kid and he didn't expect to be thrown into a trade and now he's moving away from all of his friends in a completely different country for a team that is in a completely different position.

Give the kid a break. It's not an insult directed at the Flames at all.

Agreed.

I can't stand fans reacting to quotes.

It's either "well, what do you expect him to say?" or, "wow, he didn't say the generic quote I'm used to, he has an attitude issue"

I don't mind the reaction, shows a team mentality, "I don't care where I play, I'm still the big dog, joki out." would have been a million times worse.

No kidding, in my NHL 14 GM mode, I had Hamilton, Shinkaruk, and Jokipakka before it happened in real life. But then again I also had Tarasenko, Toews, Coyle, Skinner, and so on
