But it wouldn't shock me if a GM from a team looking to acquire Russell would float the rumour to Dreger that the Flames were looking for "only" two 2nds instead of a 1st and a prospect just to try to reduce the price competing teams are willing to offer.
Gilbertson reporting Russell will take the morning skate
Sensible decision. I'd even have him slot back into the defensive lines as well. They clearly took him along should a trade not materialize, so should that happen, he'll be ready and good to go for tonight.

I guess he is still a Flame. It would probably be insulting to him if they told him to stay home and wait by the phone and then they don't trade him.
"Russell, you won't be a part of this team after the deadline. Stay home and wait by the phone"
*hours later*
"Russell, you're still a Flame, get down to the dome and get ready to play."
I'd be choked if I were him, and I'm sure other players wouldn't look to favourably at that situation either. Participate in team stuff until you're not a part of the team.

If they were worried about this 'injury' he was supposedly nursing, they would have held him out. This to me is not only a good idea because he would be ready to play should a trade not happen, but it's also a good eye test for any interested parties to know that he's fit and ready to go should they trade for him.
We need to prove his fitness just to allay GMs fears I think.

Do scouts watch the morning skates? Would anybody other than the team they are playing watch the morning skate? ... maybe he's going to Philly? /s
Boomer and Francis are talking about Ritchie right now.
They say he "plays a big game".
He's a power forward. I don't think he's quite as aggressive a hitter as his younger brother Nick who is playing on ANA right now but they play a similar style.
