Maybe this is coming just from hope. . . .

But it wouldn't shock me if a GM from a team looking to acquire Russell would float the rumour to Dreger that the Flames were looking for "only" two 2nds instead of a 1st and a prospect just to try to reduce the price competing teams are willing to offer.

Valeri Nichuskin??? I think he'd fit perfectly with our core.

Huh. You're the first person to have suggested that name.

Some question if Stars are willing to give up what the Flames want
We're hearing a lot of good things about Russell's value today

Sensible decision. I'd even have him slot back into the defensive lines as well. They clearly took him along should a trade not materialize, so should that happen, he'll be ready and good to go for tonight.

It's likely because he's still a member of the Flames as of right now, and it lets him skate with his team one last time.

I guess he is still a Flame. It would probably be insulting to him if they told him to stay home and wait by the phone and then they don't trade him.

"Russell, you won't be a part of this team after the deadline. Stay home and wait by the phone"

*hours later*

"Russell, you're still a Flame, get down to the dome and get ready to play."

I'd be choked if I were him, and I'm sure other players wouldn't look to favourably at that situation either. Participate in team stuff until you're not a part of the team.

In a pink soon to be traded jersey to indicate no contact of any kind.

If they were worried about this 'injury' he was supposedly nursing, they would have held him out. This to me is not only a good idea because he would be ready to play should a trade not happen, but it's also a good eye test for any interested parties to know that he's fit and ready to go should they trade for him.

We need to prove his fitness just to allay GMs fears I think.

Boomer and Francis are talking about Ritchie right now.

They say he "plays a big game".

It's the morning skate, not the morning Battledome.

Do scouts watch the morning skates? Would anybody other than the team they are playing watch the morning skate? ... maybe he's going to Philly? /s

Russell has been nursing something, so the morning skate means that he's "tradeable"

He threw a nasty butt-end into Monahan's head last year.

So there's that.

He's a power forward. I don't think he's quite as aggressive a hitter as his younger brother Nick who is playing on ANA right now but they play a similar style.
