Was hoping a 2nd and a prospect but could be a case where Dallas is in love with their prospects and don't want to move them or they are offering a prospect that projects as a bottom six or bottom pair d. I'd that's the case ok with two seconds. In line with what Toronto got for polak. Was hoping we might be able to get a premium but the market is the market.

So in your reality he has the same value as Justin Schultz?

I think his true value is similar to Hudler or Glencross last year but he will likely get more due to the lack of Dmen on the market

His value isn't a 3rd in this years market. If you are in the market for a defenceman, Russell is your only viable option. Hamhuis, you'd have to hope he waives his NTC. Then the enxt guys available are Liles or Schlemko. The rest wouldn't be rentals. This year's defence market is very thin, hence why we should be able to get that return for him.

A 2nd from Dallas is likely 55-60th where a first from Boston/SJ is 15-18 so not that simple. I used Boston as an example as they have been rumoured to have interest and have 2 1st round picks that are unlikely to be north of 20th.

These picks will get us a starting goalie next year me thinks. Who knows maybe the Flames can go rfa hunting again with the extra picks?

Picks are among the best currency for trading at the draft when a lot of players are available

I was expecting more given the market, but obviously if that's the best deal then the Flames should take it. Its a weird market though. Shultz gets a 3rd, Polak gets two seconds, and Russell is significantly better than both!? You'd think the value would be significantly better too

I'd be thrilled with two 2nds. x2 if they were both for this year's draft

The picks themselves are awesome to have, but there's always the package deals on draft day to consider as well (like Hamilton last year)
