Actually, with NYR in cap issues likely getting worse after this Staal family triangle, think they have to dump UFA Yandle no? So Hayes+Yandle for Russell.
Yandle is apparently staying put. Eric Staal plays the wing now doesn't he?

Really curious as to what the return s going to be. I would've assumed once that his trade price would rival that of Iggy's but that Horrendous cap hit is an anchor.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Pending trade call, Eric Staal is going to NYR.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Staal has signed his NMC/NTC waiver to go to NYR.

Eric Staal is an elite player even in a down year. Ya gotta think the prospect will be a good one if there's no 1st rounder involved.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Not official by any means, but I believe CAR will receive two 2nd-round picks and quite possibly Finnish prospect Aleksi Saarela. #TSN

No idea what position he plays now. I assume C.

Yandle from reports was going to stay last couple days, but with the additional space that Staal will take up as of right now, he'd likely be the first offloaded as its a luxury they can't afford. IMO.

Russell is cheaper, Flames take on an expiring contract as the "help" for the Rags, and for that, get a JG former teammate/friend, just in time for contract negotiations.

Not going to happen, but that would be awesome.

I would have wanted Staal to go to a different team, just to increase the odds of the cup coming to Thunder Bay. Good deal for CAR though, I wonder where Staal ends up in the summer?

He's been a 50-60 point player for years. One of the more overrated players in the league IMO. The 2004 lockout was a boon for him, without it I'm not sure he's as highly regarded.

Eric Staal hasn't been an elite player for a long time.

His drop in play has been tremendous

That kind of return makes the Hudler trade look better to fans who were disappointed in it IMO.

How do the Rangers add more than a $8 million dollar cap hit without sending anything back? I wonder who else they will trade now.

Craig Button @CraigJButton
For @NHLCanes Aleksi Saarela is a very good prospect. High IQ, makes plays. Quick & plays & executes at high pace. Versatile. Competes.

I think Eric Staal is the greatest candidate for a change of scenery of all time. I believe he is still an elite player. Could be a little TBay bias though. I'm not sure.
