I like Russell but I understand why they have to trade him. Treliving should probably package Russell with a draft pick(s) (Florida's 2nd) to Tampa for Jonathan Drouin and maybe a pick or prospect. Depends on how many draft pick or young guy from Stockton are willing to give up. I think Drouin will fit in playing with Sam Bennett on the 2nd line.
I don't know.. just a thought.

Glad to see the Hudler deal has tempered fan expectations for Russell's value.

Russell + for Drouin is a much more realistic outlook.

My expectations are lowered by history.

It seem that there are a lot of that at CP. There will be great joy and victory dance if Russell.... who was on one of the very best pairings in the league for the last 20 games of last year brings in a 2nd round pick #28 in the draft. Just a couple of spots behind the pick that we get as compensation were to Jankowski sign with another team in August.

Maybe I am hoping that this time I will be impressed by the return, but don't expect to be.

The Flames got a 3rd round pick for Stempniak (huge win) .... and then they promptly turned that into Bolling.

Russell is a 4-5 defensemen, 2nd rounders are probably under 20% successful, when they are they are depth players. Drouin's ceiling is huge, very skilled - he isn'g going for a second, 4-5 rental dman and a middling prospect.

Drouin will get an A level prospect and 1st round pick (15 to 25) or a B prospect and 1st rounder (5 to 15). Alternatively a bonafide NHLer (top 6 forward) or a top 4 dman - both of which are under good medium term (2 to 4 yrs) cap friendly contracts and a B/C prospect.

yeah, I dunno who or why we started that but mind-bottling vs boggling is an intentional misspell for many of us.

Not everyone enjoys talking to themselves. Having a different POV is valuable to this board. Otherwise its a circle jerk.

If Russell plus gets a good prospect, I think that is a deal to pursue. Would something around Russell and Colborne look good enough to Dallas to involve Nichushkin? May need to be other pieces, but that deal gives them a guy more suited to how they are using Nichushkin now, who could be retained, and the top available rental defenseman.

Yep that's me.

No contending playoff team can be composed of small skilled no-contact players. The limit is 3-4.

Bouwmeester was a bad Signing. Played too soft and set the tone for the team. Wasn't needed as Flames had Phanuef/Regehr/Aucion/Sarich/Gio at the time.

A team can not win with Stempniak in the top 6.

Mason Raymond was a horrible signing that I identified as such 3 minutes after it was done.

Gaudreau was going to be a front line player with the Flames and not spend a day in the minors based on his performance at the world cup.

Monahan was going to be a lot better than Elias Lindholm.

those were my very clear positions in the past that can be judged as crazy or not.

Going forward:

Gio's contract is a disaster.

Frolik took away Hudlers money and is not as good as Hudler and will not likely be a #1 line player for the length of his contract. Brings to mind of Hagman/Stajan and Kotalik except we don't have Iginla (or even Hudler) for him to play behind.

Hamilton lacks the hockey sense to be touted as a generational d-man. Tools are there but too much standing around and not making any play at all. Not that he gets beat he just doesn't make any play all.

Should have been signed to a 3 M bridge contract.... then pay the $8-10 M if he reaches his potential. He like Bouwmeester was a prize acquisition that wasn't really needed - Gio/Brodie Russell/Wideman- Schlemko.

^ how about all the times you have been wrong. Have you come back to accept that ?

If Russell goes for a 1st will you come back on Monday and say "wow I was wrong" or will you just start bashing Frolik and Hamilton again ?

Don't forget the obligatory Stempniak mention.
