I saw that in the metro this morning, I thought maybe Metro was trolling, as there wasn't any mention of the fact that the diversity unit is composed entirely of old white men.

Racist attitude or not, it's a valid criticism.
Out of all the cops that they could have picked from, they pick four old white guys. How effective are these guys going to be as CPS liaisons when they have no ties to the cultures that they are dealing with?
Culture is learned, but there are a lot of intricacies that it would be difficult to pick up if you're presumably starting from scratch. Not to mention the breadth of diversity within each of the listed portfolios.

Just because they are not <insert race here>, does not mean that they have no ties to the culture or community. You don't know their history, and assuming that it is automatically incompatible with such a role is racist.
That said, I would bet than more than one of these officers are less than ideal candidates.

A quick read of their comments confirms these are the whitest bunch of white dudes who ever whited, I should know, we can smell our own.
These could very well be the best guys for the job, but if there ever was a time to promote a minority who didn't quite deserve it, this is it.

Here we go with the political correctness. They are four white guys, but the PC crowd won't even let us say so, and if someone does, suddenly it's racist.

Yeah, I'm not generally a big fan of affirmative action, but having the diversity unit be 100% white males makes it seem like you're not making an effort to me. An the police being accepted as a trusted authority by all parts of our society is really important.

As ever, a media article doesn't always present all the facts. From Cst. Jeremy Shaw's FB page:
"Although profiling 4 middle-aged white dudes is poor optics for the 12-person Calgary Police Service Diversity Unit... it's a great start to give citizens some #BehindTheBadge insight into a unit that many don't even know exists."
Also of note, some of what the Diversity Unit does: http://www.calgary.ca/cps/Pages/Comm...education.aspx

Briefly reading the article it sure looks like they are each individually qualified for their roles...
Yet... it is still funny as hell

Just because you are/were a visible minority in the CPS does not necessarily mean that you have any common sense regarding diversity.
