That's always the funny part of these reactions.

If you don't like the return and think the player was worth more, then why didn't we get more back? It's because nobody was willing to offer more.

We know Treliving is one of the most active GMs. He no doubt asked every team about their interest and took the best offer. Obviously.

You could argue maybe if we wait until the very deadline a team might increase their offer. However there's also the chance Florida would have looked elsewhere and taken their offer off the table. Then you're accepting a backup offer of maybe just a 2nd.

It's rumoured Dryden Hunt is going to Florida too.

I will miss Huds but on the ohter hand... this is going to be a deep draft so I'm looking forward to see some good prospects slipping into the 2nd round.

All the best Jiri, you've been an awesome part of our rebuild !

Happy he scored in his last game. Wish him all the best -- he earned his entire contract plus more with his performance last year with Monahan and Gaudreau.

Reasonable return for a UFA on an underwhelming season.

This is not a fair statement. Yes, it was reported the Flames were looking for a 2nd, but even at the time many people called that out as a weak return for a player who admittedly struggled to start the season but has turned it on lately and finished last year as one of the league's top point producers.

You can either take these reports at face value or chalk it up to posturing for a better return. But to say that anyone expecting something better was being ignorant is to paint with far too broad a brush IMO.

This was obviously the best deal- I was thinking a 2nd and a mid level prospect so i'm good with the return.
Who is outraged?

Hyperbole much?

I love watching Hudler and sad to see him gets traded but I guess it is a business decision. Too bad they did not package something with him to trade him to Tampa for Drouin+ draft/prospect. At least he got traded to a team away from our division.

Added a poll as I think the "underwhelmed" crowd are noisier than they are many

Why wouldn't they retain some salary? That could have boosted the value a lot.

Picks are great, but I was hoping they could get a player with a couple of years of development to fit it with the 20-25 old core of the team.

I think people are underwhelmed at the return for Hudler are thinking about the Hudler from the 2014-15 season, not the 2015-16 season. Last year was the outlier in Hudler's career, not the norm. Somewhat bummed to see him go, but we got a good 3.75 years out of him (not always good, but overall it was good value for the money) and that's fine.

What the Flames received from Florida seems about right to me. Considering he was gone either way in 4 months, not a bad return IMO.

Sure, hyperbole. Does the word "upset" work better for you?

I don't know. On the one hand, he was playing on the first line and was playing well before the injury. So, the first pick, perhaps, was in the realm of possibilities. On the other hand, he was not playing as well as he did last season, so 2nd + 4th is not that bad, all other things considered. I guess, I am more surprised that he went to Florida instead of a Cup contender team.

Hmm 2018.

Micheal ferland, welcome back to line #1!

I guess we are cheering for Florida to have a huge choke now so that our pick is near #40 instead of #50.

It might not be an out of this world return, but around what I expected. The side of me that is unhappy with this deal is comparing this return to the one we could have obtained in the summer. Hudler has had a terrible year, this return is fitting.

I'm more just happy that our management is in fact taking advantage of the free assets we can obtain from our expiring ufas in this ugly season.

I consider Florida a cup contending team. They have everything you need to compete. Goaltending, offence, defence, size.

I expected a bit more but not upset. A 2nd and a 4th for 22 games of Hudler playing meaningless Hockey is pretty fair.
