This is the time when I start getting worried that teams will look elsewhere and Flames will be left with no suitors in the end.....but I'm just paranoid like that.

I think they should play him saturday. Not heavily, but maybe he adds a nice assist and gets on the highlight reels. Out of sight, out of mind.
I think from the Flames perspective, the best showcase is to point to how he stepped up when Giordano went down last year. No reason to risk injury.

How close to the deadline was the Glencross trade last year. I think it was just a couple days right? I remember I was waiting forever to finally see him traded. Seems like deja vu with Russell & Hudler

Seems a bit of a pessimistic assumption IMO.

Trade deadline is the day where teams overpay for depth defensemen. Russell is one of the best depth defensemen left. A lot of teams are looking for depth defensemen. The market value as set by Polak for depth defensemen looks quite high. Add all these together and he should get good value. I don't think there's any reason to be pessimistic about that.

Hey I admitted I am getting trigger happy (even though there is plenty of time) which is skewing rational thought.

What about trading with the Islanders for one of they're struggling first round picks from 2014 in Dal Colle or Ho-Sang??

I know Ho-Sang might be a reach when considering what this team is all about with regards to respect and having the right 'team' attitude. Maybe they give up Dal Colle though if we put a good package together that could help them make a good playoff push. A guy like Hudler would be a big addition for their left side and Huds is a flexible winger in that he can play either side though in Calgary he has mainly been on the right wing.

Add to that fact that they have to move Hamonic and Hamonic wants to come to western Canada and maybe there could be some potential for a bigger trade here... Has NYI been scouting us at all?? I guess even if they have though it could be linked to last nights game as teams seem to scout future matchups quite a bit...

Just jonesing for some Flames trades !!

For craps and giggles:

To Calgary
Dal Colle
Hamonic
Combination of 2 mid picks OR Ho-Sang - their choice

To NYI
Russell 50% retained
Hudler 50 % retained
Andersson/Kylington - 1 of them their choice
Smith/Arnold/Klimchuk - 1 of them their choice

Eriksson contract discussions expected to continue tomorrow which suggests the Bruins are unlikely to trade him before exhausting ext talks.

Scratch another one off the list.

That would be awesome for the Flames

Way too good for the Flames. A top 5 pick (struggling this year but still) and a legit 3/4 Dman signed for amazing money plus picks for 2 UFA's and 1 good D prospect and a mediocre forward.

Flames take that deal all day everyday

Not sure they'd deal Hamonic right now for that package let alone throwing in Dal Colle and the picks/Ho-Sang. Doesn't really make any sense from the Isles IMO.

Trading Hamonic they're probably gonna want a roster player, 1st rounder and prospect/lower pick. And that trade is almost guaranteed to happen in the offseason, not at the deadline. Braydon Coburn went for Gudas, 1st and a 3rd and I think Hamonic's value league wide is higher.

I don't think Dal Colle is "struggling", he's 19 years old and has been 2 pts/g since being traded.

Pierre McGuire dropped Nichushkin for Drouin on TSN1040 as something he claims he heard last week.

So if our GM Flys home today/night it is unlikely we see any Flames trades until tomorrow at the earliest...

Why do you think that? on private charters there's no restriction to using computers of phones, he's as accessible as if he's sitting in his office
