So we'll have to get a prospect since they won't have a 1st or 2nd this year.

I could see that. They will use him for the stretch drive and playoffs and then void his contract stating his conduct earlier in this season reflects badly on the organization or something stupid like that.

The big trade I care about today: server is on the move to a new cluster. Cluster looks like a competitor, bigger badder situation, hopefully with good stamina. We'll see how they hold up during 'playoffs'...ie. when Hudler/Russell move and CP blows up...but I'm hopeful. Good to see our littler server out there 'making it'.
Anyone want to guess at how 'server' will perform on their new 'cluster'? Wonder what the new contract on cluster will be? Term? Dollars?

All I want to know is what the pundits are predicting we are getting for our old server. A 3rd or two 2nds?

I keep forgetting about the migration and when it was slow today I thought there was a big trade that broke CP.

Its too bad Engelland has one more year on his contract. If he was UFA, I could see him getting a decent return. Seems like a guy who'd be good to have for a playoff run.

Yeah we'll need him next year when we're in the playoffs.

I'm really hoping the Flames extend Engelland for a better contract. he's a great 5-6 dman and can provide the grit and toughness the flames need. maybe 3yrs @1.5per

Oh for sure. I was just talking if he was UFA this year. Next year if Flames are in the playoffs, I'd keep a guy like Engelland for depth in the playoffs.

He'd get a good return right now if Treliving wants to move him. He's the type of defenseman that teams want for the playoff as you note. The extra year on his deal doesn't erase his value, his contract is not as out of line as some fans think. Ideally we'd keep him and move two of Wideman/Russell/Smid instead. I've been speculating for a while that if we re-signed Russell then maybe you cash in on Engelland right now because you're a seller and the market for depth physical defensive defensemen is very high right now.

Engelland right now might get you more than Polak got the Leafs to a team that can afford to add his 3 million next year. But like I said I'd rather move Russell/Wideman/Smid.

What are the teams that (a) need the depth and (b) can take on that much cap space for another year? One would suppose they are successful teams who are already pretty close to the cap.

Dallas has the cap space next year. Tons of it. I don't know if they have an internal budget though.

They could use the depth too I'm sure.

Florida would be another team, again depending on internal budget.
