Ugh. I guess we'll have to settle for Laine/P-word...

I am beginning to think that Naklaspoon are making Russell/Wideman/Engelland/Smid all expendable. They have been consistently awesome since coming up. Perfect 3rd pairing D-men.

Even if you have to eat some cap on the guys with 1 year left, it'll be doable due to the fact that those two make virtually nothing.

Huh? Did I miss the end of the season and the draft lottery already? Wow, I don't even remember the trade deadline happening yet either. What are the playoff match ups if you don't mind telling me?

Very happy with the play of Ortio, see no reason why he doesn't get the rest of the season. Looks more than capable back there.

Thought both Wotherspoon and Nakladal played well as well. I like their games and don't think we have lost too much with Russell and Wideman out. Props to Engelland for once again stepping up and looking good out there.

Nice troll job.

The Flames can't out tank the Oilers, leafs or Jackets.

You don't need a crystal ball to know that.

That was a great game. The NHL should look at that and realize there doesn't need to be a ton of scoring to be entertaining.

Top line was dominant tonight. One of their best performances all year.

Johnny Gaudreau was spectacular tonight. Such a treat to watch him every game.

Ortio with yet another good start. Hopefully he can go on a good run here and make everyone warm up to him again.

IF this is Hudler's last game in a Flames uniform I think it's a nice sendoff.

The Isles are a good team. Tavares is so good and really fun to watch. Losses are good at this point but I still get ticked off about them. A rare OT loss.

Can't wait to see those beautiful retro jersey's Saturday!

Yeah it was a nice troll by you, sorry I fell for it. There is a triple lottery so no matter where we finish out of playoffs we have a chance at him. The Leafs and Oilers finishing last and 2nd last aren't guaranteed to win the lottery. There's a 66% chance that the bottom 2 teams don't win the 1st lottery.

Flames can't out-tank the BJs? Have you even looked at the standings? BJs are already ahead of us and are 6-1-3 in their last 10 games, hottest non-playoff team out there.

Pretty fail post by you all around.

Yes I know how the lottery works, and no each loss doesn't equal more Matthews points because the Flames will never catch the 3 aforementioned teams.

I am so absolutely pleased and thrilled that Joni Ortio has not only recognized the opportunity, but has also seized it with both hands and forced it to its knees.

Kipper Jr. has excelled in 2 consecutive. Keep it going, Oreo.

Try looking at the standings bud. The BJs already are ahead of us and you claim we will never pass them in the reverse standings, derpa der.

Such fail. Maybe stop embarrassing yourself?

Um, this lost did mean more Matthews points. We dropped two spots in the standings. We're in 4th-last right now. That gives us a 29% chance of a top 3 pick. And I don't really care if it's 1st overall or 3rd overall. We get a top 3 pick and we win the division next season. That's how good these three guys are. Puljujarvi, he's basically a RW with at least as much talent as Sam Bennett, already playing in a pro league with a polished two-way game. Laine? He will take our power play from last place to top 10 in the NHL with his howitzer from the left circle. Matthews? He is a talent somewhere between Anze Kopitar and Evgeny Malkin, being coached by the same guy who coached a young Kopitar and Henrik Sedin.

Matthews points > Playoff points.

Fun game. Nice way to lose a point, good night for the tank. At least we can make the tank look good, unlike our neighbors up north.

No doubt. Defense wins though. It's great to score goals, and you have to score some to win, but defense is so more important. We need better goaltending and better defensive play full stop. Goaltending has been awful this year. But if I could make only one change, it would be how they play, not all they play

The kind of loss you can't be mad about. The Flames could have/should have won this game but the Islanders are a quality team. There was a lot of the "push-back" we've wanted to see from Bollig, Bouma, and Engelland. Gaudreau was hopping all night, Hudler brought up his trade value, Ortio was very good, and the defense was solid from top to bottom with Nakladal and Wotherspoon not looking out of place. Too bad it ended up the way it did but this was a fine effort.

Off topic, but did anyone listen to the Lou and Pat debate over Russell today in the radio? Man, I've never seen Lou get that heated before...
