Count me in the camp that is really worried about the future of this team.

Why? Because of a step backwards in points? They have three really good young forwards, one or two more who look very promising, two "middle-aged" very useful forwards, two stud defencemen (one of whom is still young) and a very good young defenceman. They have a couple decent goaltending prospects, at least two and probably three good defence prospects, and a decent amount of forwards in the minors who can be NHLers. And if they continue at this pace they will add a very very good forward prospect at the draft (not to mention what Hudler or Russell will bring them).

It would have been better if it read. Flames can't Mona-handle Kings.

I like puns. This thread title is an insult to puns. You're trying so hard and failing even harder. Monacan't? This only works if his name is Monacan, and even then, it wouldn't make sense. This wouldn't make the cut in a gene principe pregame bit.

Think before you start a thread with what you think is a clever title and then just... don't.

edit: see above for a semi-passable pun. Even then - a stretch.

I got another bad one since Im drunk and have a week off.

Kings in Gaud mode beat Flames 2-1.

I think we should just Fer-get this whole thing happened.

Flames fail to over throw Monarchy fall 2-1.

Bennett played well and is adapting to his new role at center.
Monahan and Gaudreau are playing well together. Gaudreau is awesome.
Brodie is, on a bad night, still the best defenceman on a team including Giordano.
Our goaltending is highly questionable, but if Ortio can build off tonight, it shows some promise.

Our "future" is fine. Not sure who all is in this worried camp, but I'm assuming there are a lot of bushy beards, military rations, and is being held in some all concrete sub-basement.

Better than OP, but I think I'd rather try to swallow another Nak pun. But I'm pretty sure your post pretty much implied the Rainer Wolfcastle "That's he joke" pic

Very entertaining game. Wouldn't even mind ending the whole season with losses if the games are like this.

If next year is a repeat ill be in the worried column, until then maybe this one last high pick was just meant to be and we can move a few other pieces, get 1 year older and stronger and come out swinging next year.

Also if we bring in at least 1 new goalie and Gillies gets a full healthy year in the A, then hopefully 17/18 should be the year we are ready to make some noise.

Can't get in the full title when you're rushing to post the thread before the game is even over.

Always makes me think my feed is way slow when I get a notification for the PGT when the clock is still running.

Is there a thread starting contest? I love contests.

Why?

Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, TJ Brodie, and Dougie Hamilton is a great core to have and they're all 25 or younger. Take out Brodie and 22 and younger.

If one or two of Jankowski, Poirier, Shinkaruk, Klimchuk, Kylington, Andersson, and Hickey can pan out they're in a great spot. Hopefully one of Gillies or McDonald pans out as well. On top of that they're probably going to add one of Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Tkachuk, or Chychrun at the draft.

If this team can find a solution in net and replace some under-performing veterans (Wideman, Hudler, Jones, Russell) either at the trade deadline, the draft, or free agency I see no reason why they can't contend for a playoff spot.

Don't forget the Islanders made the playoffs, the next year they finished 26th overall, and bounced right back. Adding one more high pick this year is not a bad thing. If anything I'm more excited for the future this year than last year.

I don't like being ushered into camps but I guess throw me in the other one?

Future is looking real bright. Unless you mean next game... we'll still be kind of bad next game.

Hopefully Ortio proves the haters (me!) wrong and puts up a handful more of these games. The kids were all pretty good tonight I thought.

With the exception of JG and Brodie, just not nearly as optimistic as many on the potential for development of our younger players. And if it all starts and ends with goaltending we could be on the outside looking in for a few years.

Ortio looked good. Only complaint I have about him is he seems to shrug or crouch down a bit. I feel like if he straightened his back a bit he'd be taller and bigger in the net. I'm no goalie expert though.

Wotherspoon looked great again. Good edge work, some nice passes in tight. Showed good instincts to shoot the puck. Has a nice frame. He looks a lot more NHL ready this time. Nakladal shows good compete. He seems more at home in the offensive zone, he may actually be good power play option going forward.

Love that Bennett is at centre, looks like Hartley is starting to really trust him. Now we gotta give our awesome centre depth some wingers to work with.

Are we any worse with Wotherspoon and Nakladal, than we are with Wideman and Russell? Are we the same? Better even?

Need to see more than half a dozen games, but I am preferring the current pairing over those two. Am I nuts?

When he's on, Ortio is the hybrid of Ramo and Hiller that a lot of people looked for last year. Not as wild as Ramo, but more athletic and a bit less butterfly dependant than Hiller. I still think his glove hand is a bit odd (but that glove looked huge to me tonight). I think he lacked confidence at the start of the year. He seems like a kid that needs to work hard to maintain his game.

He's got a really good game under his belt, so let's see what comes of it.

Thats actually called a hybrid goalie . There are 3 types of goalies .

Blocking/standup, butterfly and hybrid.

It's amazing how desensitized everyone has become to the magic Gaudreau creates with so many smart plays made at top speed. It seems like 8 times out of 10 the dishes the puck off at an improbably angle right onto someone's stick.

His creativity is off the charts. Can't wait to see him continue to get better as the lineup around him gets better.

Sixth overall in NHL scoring with next to no help this season. When the rest of our talent matures and he gets a top line RW... watch out.
