Crash and Bang Winger

I thought Ortio played very well, looked confident in the net which made me stick around to the end of the game. If Hiller was in net I probably would have went to be hours ago. Overall, I thought it was a good game from the Flames. Kings are a very strong team and we aren't good enough to beat them without some luck on our side.
also, what the F@$k is up with the refs. Ever since Wideman assaulted that linesman I think our penalties against have gone up 100%+

Not very dissapointed in this lost to a good team. Flames fought hard and lost but I like the way some of young guys and rookies played tonight. Very impressed with Joni Ortio, Jakub Nakladal, Wotherspoon and Bennett. Even Engelland played well tonight. Ortio gave the Flames a chance to win tonight and at least next game against the Rangers, I'll feel like the Flames will have a chance to win with Ortio on net. Just tired of watching Hiller going down on his knees all the time. I hope the Flames will re-sign Nakladal and Wotherspoon's confidence keeps growing. Hopefully after this game Ortio will feel better and take the rein the rest of the season.

Colborne is an average 3rd line forward. He has warts, but he has some positive aspects as well. He's on pace for about 35 points, which is pretty good for a depth forward.

As an extra attacker, Bennett for grit and skil, Ferland for net presence, Backlund who is playing great, frolik who is arguably the most consistent hard worker are all better options than Joe. He was a turnover machine and put the cherry on top turning it over with the empty net.
The worst part is, I think he has a incredible amount of potential if he could get stronger. until then, I don't see how he still cracks the lineup night in and out.
What was Bob thinking scratching ferland for Stajan against the Kings? Ferland set the tempo early and is needed against a team like that.

Orio better be the starter against the Islanders on Thursday. He was composed under pressure and gave us a chance to steal a point or two.

Kings 2, Flames 1 - Calgary Mona-can't score more than 1 goal!
Ortio getting praise by his teammates and coach
@NHLFlames:
"Orts played real well for us. He kept us in early." - Sean Monahan
"It's great for Orts to step up like that and come through like that." - Josh Jooris
"He kept us in the game. I thought he was real strong, tracking the puck well." - Bob Hartley on Joni Ortio

Just posters who try to argue when they have no clue what they're talking about annoys me. GioforPm said Brodie was on the ice and pinched and that's why Colborne was playing the point.
Brodie wasn't on the ice. It was one defenceman and Colborne. Brodie and Gio played the first pp unit and then he came on.

Didn't watch the game?
Stajan was scratched for Ferland...
The Stajan scratch was talked about often. Ferland also has the Crunch of the Game and was out with the extra attacker.

He came out at with 2 minutes left. The first line was gassed and that left not too many options. He wasn't on at the end, with the first line.
I suppose too that his job was to crash the net, so you use a big body like him, or Jones, or maybe Ferland.

Actually, I said Nakladl pinched, since it was the right side. But I'm sure you are right since you are so certain.

Scoring Winger

I hope the Flames continue to show the effort they showed tonight for the rest of the season, but I do not want too many wins from those games. Honestly, the only point of winning games now is for pride. We're not going to make the playoffs, and we're better off playing good games and losing (like tonight), gaining that experience, and getting a high pick to continue to the rebuild. I would hate to see us outside of the top 5 in the draft. Keep the losses entertaining, boys!

I don't think there's anything wrong with having Colborne around in general, but yeah, Colborne is being used way too much.
But more importantly, great to see Ortio have a good game. We could use another goalie for next season.

No you said in the GT another d-man pinched and I asked you who it was and you said Brodie since Gio and Hamilton play the first unit when in fact it was Brodie and Gio who were playing together that pp.
Don't back pedal now you said the only reason Colborne was playing the point was because a d-man pinched.
There were four forwards on the ice. Jones, Backlund, Bennett, and Colborne. Nakladal and Colborne were playing the point the entire time even after the whistle.

Watched it start to finish. I am not sure what you are saying. Ferland had a solid game until the bench for shorter.
It was my understanding that ferland was scratched up until the last minute.

Pretty sure that, since the top line was tired, that you did in fact have Bennett, Frolik and Backlund out there, as well as Colborne.

Ortio has played 6 games, made 3 starts, had 5 results credited to him and he still has a better save % than Hiller as of this moment. Just hope he can keep this up, because if he gets lit up even once, Hartley will sit him down and roll with Hiller again.
Didn't watch the game, but the general consensus seems to be that the Flames played alright and gave it their best shot tonight. I can take that. PP continues to roll, which is good. Another point for Hudler which is good. Gaudreau and Monahan chipped in, which is good. Slipped a place to 25th, which is good.
Bummer that our PK continues to suck. One of the Brad's jobs in the summer is to seriously evaluate whether Gelinas continues as the special teams coach. Or, failing that, he needs to look at the bottom of the roster and maybe look to add a PK specialist to help out in that area. It's killing us.

I don't get the hate on Colborne here lately. People are expecting way too much of him. I totally agree with you, he is a useful 3rd or 4th line player. He is big with great hands and can play physical as well. His salary is not that high.
