I'd take Jooris and Granlund any day of the week over Colborne.
You honestly believe Colborne would have gotten Shinkaruk?
Actually, yeah. A 6'5" forward who is better in the faceoff dot and is still on the right side of 25? Former 1st round pick? i think Benning would have done that.
@renlavoietva: Before Dennis Wideman suspension, Flames had 5+ penalties in a game only twice in 45 games. In the last 9 games, Flames have 5+ penalties in a game 3 times.
One more penalty tonight and it's 4 of our last 10 games.
Quoting myself here...
But that makes it 4 of our last 10 games in which the Flames have had 5+ penalties in a game. Compared to 2 in our first 45.

Colborne is a good 1M player...I think people expect too much of the guy
Yah, but we gave up a whole 4th round pick for him, so there's that. And there's that thing where we couldn't send him down and it migh of hurt Sven's feelings so yah. Oh and there's that thing where we didn't re-sign Byron and kept him and we could have totally been in the playoffs like Montreal is if we kept him, right?

I didn't watch any of the games/pay attention to the analysts in the games Kelly missed - who is this?

According to NHL.com, the Flames have the lowest time on the PK of any team in the NHL at 237:53 in 58 games or 4:06 per game. This includes the last month, since Wideman's hit on the linesman.
Here's our Shorthanded TOI for each game since.
vs CAR - 10:00
vs CBJ - 0:00
@ VAN - 2:00
vs TOR - 4:32
@ SJS - 11:32
@ ARI - 6:54
vs ANA - 1:42
vs MIN - 4:30
vs VAN - 4:00
@ ANA - 5:41
That's 50:51 SH TOI in 10 games or 5:05/game, basically a minute over our season average (which includes these 10 games). This is a 25% increase in SH TOI.
If this 5:05 trend were carried over a whole season. we'd be around the 17th most penalized team, instead of the 30th.
Not making any claims, just putting the numbers out there.
Just did the two extra steps of math. Prior to Wideman's hit we had 187:02 SH TOI in 48 games which is 3:54 of SH TOI/Game. That extra 1:09 is a 30% increase in our SH TOI per game, since Wideman hit the linesman.
I'm grateful he found a way to get himself off our powerplay, but I think he could have found a better way to do it.
