Great for Paulie, he could play on my team anytime.
I am a fan of at Treliving, and he's done more good than bad, but he has dropped the ball on some of these lower tier players...
Byron
Corban Knight looks to be a solid pro in Florida
Schlemko having a solid year in NJ
3 headed goalie rotation
Raymond, Engelland deals...

Reportedly they wanted to sign Schlemko but couldn't move any d-men last summer to make room for him.
Knight? Not a big loss IMO. Definitely not wringing my hands over that one. Shore may still end up an NHLer.
Raymond was a real bad one in retrospect.
Engelland contract was fine for UFA. Added an asset for nothing that Treliving could cash in on this deadline if he wanted. Not sure how that signing is a negative. Engelland has been good. He's looked great on the bottom pair and looks not bad when we have to play him top 4. I like his game WAY better than Sarich who was more expensive and worse.
Really happy for Byron. He's not a difference maker but he's a good utility player as he's got speed to burn and is solid on the PK. I understand why it didn't work out here but it's unfortunate that he couldn't get a spot over a couple of other players that don't nearly bring the same amount of energy and all around game.
anyone who keeps bringing up Engellend as a Trevliving mistake loses a lot of credibility in my books.
Engelland isn't a mistake as he can play on the bottom pairing of any of the 30 teams in the league. Smid is the guy that's the issue on the 3rd pairing and he was inherited.
Useful player but on too rich a deal. You can't be paying $3 million to a healthy scratch.
LOL. You're funny. The only reason he was ever healthy scratched was so that Smid didn't sit forever. He wasn't healthy scratched due to poor play and that seems to be what you're insinuating.
Veteran UFA defensemen aren't going to be signed to amazing contracts. He's contract isn't outrageous at all. Good player, good signing IMO.
Wow, I don't think I've been happier for another team to sign a player like this. It honestly couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. After being bounced around the lineup with the Flames and never truly having that stability, Bryon cashes in.
Very happy for the guy and I'd take him back in heartbeat. Especially over some of the forward vets we have right now like Jones and Raymond. I'd take Byron over any of them.
Always thought waiving him was a mistake. Good for him.

Wish we had kept him and put him in the spot Cogliano plays for the Ducks.

Engelland's play when Gio got injured was enough to make his contract worth it. If he didn't step up, we would have had major issues going as far as we did in the playoffs last year.
Wow relax fellas. Nobody cared when he was waived, just because the Canadiens signed him doesn't mean we necessarily blew a chance on the guy. He was given his opportunities here, things seem to be working better in Montreal. Good for Paul, but this is not some sort of black mark on our management
Are you serious? I think a lot of people were shocked and surprised when he was waved.
Having Byron miss a short handed breakaway was better than watching it hit the back of our own net short handed.
Our PK was 20th last year and if memory serves, it improved A LOT in the second half of the year while the legendary Paul "PK wizard" Byron was injured.
The main reason our PK has gone from mediocre to abysmal rests with the goaltenders. Have you seen our PK sv%?
I didn't mind Byron while he was here but he is the definition of expendable.
