John Scott the Movie
http://deadline.com/2016/02/john-sco...ia-1201707795/
Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Mandalay Sports Media has acquired the feature life rights to tell the story of John Scott, a journeyman player who: was voted into this year’s NHL All-Star game as a captain through an Internet write-in campaign, got traded and then demoted to the minors by a pissed-off NHL because he wouldn’t withdraw and wound up the game’s MVP before heading back to the minors in Newfoundland. It’s so far-fetched that a screenwriter couldn’t have invented it. Mitch Albom, the longtime Detroit Free Press sportswriter and author of books that include Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet In Heaven, has signed to write the script for a film that will be produced by MSM’s Mike Tollin and Jon Weinbach, with Albom exec producing.

Tell me John Scott wrote that summary, because that's actually hilarious.

Also, Mandalay Sports media? Are you freaking kidding me? That's owned by Variety Magazine. Have they ever even made a movie?

So a movie no one will watch about a player no one cares about who was voted into an all star game no one cares about...... as a joke and the whole situation became a bigger joke. Can this story die soon?

This is a good story for people 20-30 years down the road who either forgot about this or never heard about it before. My kids will be like "Who's John Scott?" and I can explain to him what happened as I remembered it. But I can't see people wanting to watch movie about something they just watched unfold a few months or years ago.
Besides, with so much current making of history being available YouTube, it's hard to dramatize the "based on a true story" like years past. People can finish watching a movie about something that took place in 2015 and then literally go on online to find out what actually happened. I think that ruins the epic tale of it all.

Meh.. I will watch it. It was an interesting enough story, and I have felt for the longest time that Hollywood has run out of interesting stories for the most part. I just won't pay to see it at the theatres. PPV? Maybe.. but I would definitely watch if it was just a 'made for TV movie'.
A hockey-related movie is always worth a watch. I would be curious to see just how they do it, and if they followed the actual events or not, and who they cast to play everyone, and will they actually use other players' names, etc. As a hockey fan, how could you not want to watch this - even if you hate John Scott and was against him being at the ASG?
Who will play Gaudreau???? Jagr??? Yep, a horrible future time-waster that would be on my 'must watch list'.

I'm sure they'd sell the script to a studio (I seriously doubt that it would be one of the major studios). Is Alliance still around? I could maybe see a Canadian studio be interested.

Please god, no Canadian studio. The two part Don Cherry movie was a waste of 3 hours or however long it was

Jiri, I love you man, but I think you should just avoid any subject regarding fighting in hockey. Your horse is dead. Time to move on.
