Your worst non-sports predictions
Had a conversation today that got me thinking about some things I predicted would happen that I absolutely got 100% wrong.
- 10 years ago - Camera phones. I told my boss straight to his face that camera phones were stupid and gimmicky, and would never catch on.
- I also had this gem from Dec 2014 concerning Danielle Smith joining the PC's...

I predicted after Avatar that 3D movies would not be popular and just die and go away...
I hate that I am wrong.

I put money on the Devils making the playoffs last year. First hockey bet I've lost in a while (though I've obviously made some ill-advised pool selections). Yeah, I know, it was sports, but it was a massive fail.
Definitely predicted that tablets would be at best a niche product when the first iPad came out. "Who wants a product that is essentially the same as a smartphone, but bigger, and doesn't actually perform the "phone" function?" Right, good call there.
I declared to all who would listen in 2004 that Obama would be the first black President, then undercut myself in '08 by swearing that Hillary was going to mop the floor with him in the primaries because I thought it wasn't his time yet.

I predicted Facebook would be around for 5 to 6 years max, and would eventually go the way of myspace.

I remember having a discussion about hockey in January 2004. I don't remember what point I was arguing, but my position went something like "if the Flames win the cup this year, which I of course know they definitely won't, then..."
D'oh, I messed it up and made it sports. Leaving to illustrate my lack of reading.

I predicted Facebook IPO would fail catastrophically, and Apple stock was going to zero soon when it was around $100. So if anyone wants any hot stock tips, I'm your guy. Then do the opposite.

I remember watching Star Trek the Next Generation, and all their control panels were touch screens. I thought that would never work in real life.

I would have invested as much money as I could get in both Bre-X and Nortel. Luckily for me, I was flat broke both times.
I also predicted that fax machines would never catch on back in 1988.

I thought texting was dumb and pointless and would never catch on (Why txt when you can just call). Now if you call me without a good reason, I think you're weird.

My friends parents filled their basement cellar with shelves upon shelves of canned food in preparation for it. Pretty sure they still have some unless they got rid of it.

I like Iggy City thought at the start of the primary races that McCain would walk into the presidency if the Democrats elected Obama as their leader. No way the US would elect a black man. I was wrong (and happy to be so).
First time I saw friends break out Guitar Hero at a party I thought "what the frack is that? No way this catches on you freakin' nerds". A few months later I tried it, I loved it, as did the rest of the planet.

I was 100% convinced HD-DVD's were the future over Blueray. Swing and a miss on that one.

Was watching MNF with some friends years ago, and it was on the day that the Broncos opened their new stadium. After the way they went on and on about the stadium, someone said 'imagine if a place like that got bombed'. Then we started chatting about what the next major world event would be, and I remember I predicted that JPII would die soon. Well, I was wrong. JPII lasted another few years, and the next major news event was the very next day, Sept 11, 2001.
