I don't think this falls into the "big" category.

I will miss Granlund, he seems like a solid 2nd-3rd line pro.
Hopefully Shinkaruk can adjust to the NHL...probably worth the gamble...

Granlund has been less and less impactful on the big stage as time goes on. He started out playing with Gaudreau and Hudler. He didn't stick.

If Markus Granlund was the best return they could find...

So sounds like Weisbrod also had a big say in this and really likes the guys he drafted here...

Jankowski for Horvat, Jankowski for Horvat, Jankowski for Horvat...

Maybe if I say it 3 times it will happen.

Trade away a guy who is coming up on waiver eligible for a controllable prospect. This is Baertschi for 2nd (Andersson) all over again. And I think the Flames could win that trade as well.
Granlund wasn't going to make this team as a centre IMO - finally the Flames have depth there. He was most likely going to make it as a versatile 3rd line guy, where the Flames arguably have more depth.
What the Flames need is a top 6 winger, and Shinkaruk has the upside to get there. This gives the Flames a potential top 6 winger for a closer to guaranteed depth forward. Depth traded for a chance to bolster an area of concern

Why? They just added a solid prospect to the pool.

It's bigger than trading a pending UFA for a 3rd round pick would have been.

Does Shinkaruk have the potential to make the team next season?

Well you didn't get one, so why move him.

Jim Benning is not very good at his job.

Trading a roster player for a current minor leaguer also leaves the Flames with an open position on the roster. Will be interesting to see how they use that space heading into the trade deadline. As there are only four call-ups allowed after the deadline, they may use this to bring someone up beforehand.

Flames going to call someone up from farm now?
Perhaps Grant (if healthy?)
Agostino? F.Hamilton? Poirier? Shore?

Well, he'll be surprised to know Granlund is a centreman

Especially when the Flames are run by different people now, as compared to when they "passed on him".

I wish (not you) that people would put 2 seconds of thought into things...
