So we'll have 403, 780, 587 and 825 in the future. Kind of miss the time when it was 403 for the South and 780 for the North. But it is inevitable when everyone has multiple lines all with different numbers.
The upside is if you have a number you like that is taken, like 666-6666, now is the chance to jump in and get the 825 variant.

Ya, when you consider a family of 5 used to have one phone line, and now they have 5 phones, it makes perfect sense.
At least 5 'phones'. Anyone with a new vehicle and something like OnStar will have a number for that as well, regardless of whether they actually use it. Add in people who have work phones (cell and land line) and it's pretty easy to see how one person can 'use' 3-4 numbers. That said, 587 has been out for quite some time now and I can honestly say I do not know anyone with that prefix nor have I ever called a 587 number. Hard to believe it is at capacity now.
Sorry guys, I got a new work cell phone this year, and they had to assign a number to it. I'm basically wasting a whole phone number for no reason (other than the boss can now email me on the weekends easier).

Kinda stupid that the 587 and now 825 are province wide, and the 403 and 780 are north and south. Seems so disorganized. They should all be province wide, or else they should be specific. I'd be a bit retroactively annoyed if I was a dirty Edmontonian that had to change up everything when the 780 came along, and now we've got these province wide codes that make that previous change useless.
Lol at the part of the article that says there are people that want to be the first ones with the new area code. F-that. You can pry my 403 from my cold dead hands.

Well assuming there are no restrictions on the numbers we get somewhere in the neighbourhood of 9,999,999 new numbers, or you know...999 9999 new numbers.
10,000,000 if some lucky soul gets 825-000-0000 for their new number.

825 was assigned to Alberta at the same time 587 was. The numbers are just going to start circulating now. Which I find interesting, as it seems to me that 587s are still rare.
Every year I get phone numbers of a new group of clients. In past years, I might get one 587 number. This year it is very common. Not as common as 403, but it's not rare anymore.
