These are some of the top upcoming UFAs'. I saw it suggested in another thread that there be a thread dedicated to discussing upcoming free agents and where they will end up, and for how much money. If anyone wants any other names added, I will add them to the OP.

Please feel free to leave some feedback on how I did, and how I can improve this post, as I don't make a lot of threads so I am always willing to take advice. Thanks

If the contract is reasonable, Milan Lucic please.

Also unlikely, but Jagr too. Just so I can buy a Jagr Flames jersey.

One of:

Boedker would be a solid add IMO, much like Frolik was last off season. Speed to burn, heavy(ish) player and a solid two way game.

Lucic, some say he's over rated, but he'd be a great add. A big, mean player who can play in the top six. Exactly what the Flames need.

Also, Perron. Agitating winger who can play top six and produce with high end talent.

All three are a good age too.

I'd be ecstatic if we can somehow get Okposo at a decent deal.

You missed Backes and Okposo?

Guys that would help the Flames include Lucic, Stamkos, Okposo, Eriksson, Backes, Ladd, Boedker, Mcginn, Jagr. Doubt Jagr is going anywhere unfortunately. If Treliving can get any of the major guys it would be huge for us.

Ward I might look at if they can't find a goalie through trade before then. Wouldn't overpay for him though.

Okposo and Boedker are on my wish list.

Raanta if we don't land a goalie through a trade.

Stamkos would be #1 on my list. It'd be like adding Iginla in his prime, as far as goal scoring goes, with the added bonus of Stammer being able to play center as well.

Not at $10 million per though.

Okposo I would also love to see the Flames sign, I just don't see an american who has played his whole career on the East Coast signing in Western Canada, but stranger things have happened I suppose.

Backes would fantastic as well, I just worry about the $$ and term he will be asking for given that he is going to be 32 by the time his next deal kicks in.

I would target others but working off this list above, in order:
-Stamkos: You have to try if the finances work. 25 year old center superstars don't grow on trees. Highly unlikely.
-Lucic: Good age for UFA, big, talented, exactly what the Flames need like the other 29 teams (imagine if he ended up on Anaheim with Perry and Getzlaf - world domination)
-Boedker: Second to Lucic, even better age for UFA
-Yandle: upgraded replacement for Russell

Not sure I really want Backes - he fills a need for size up front but he is too old for a long term deal and has been blasted by the Blues fan base in the past.

13 points in 29 career playoff games, and I specifically recall them being really unhappy with his play following the last two postseasons.

Kris Russell and Dam Hamhuis should be on the list. There aren't many defensemen UFAs and Yandle is the only one clearly better than them.

I really hope Treliving is able to get the Flames out from under some of the junk contracts they have on the books next year. Not all of these contracts are horrible but they chew up space on bottom pair/six/press box and the Flames could use those $ on more pressing needs.

Moving Wideman, Bollig, Raymond, Smid, Engellend that have one year left would be nice

I think shopping Stajan and Backlund should also happen. Backlund is 26 on pace for 40pts and has always been a fan favorite of the geek statboys. Perhaps they shop him for a top 4 D or top 6 forward?

I would like the flames to have the flexibility to make positive changes this summer. Right now it looks like they can sign a goalie, pay Gaudreau and Monahan and that is about it

After seeing what affect (or effect?) Jagr has had on the young players in Florida, he would be an awesome addition here in Calgary.

And I would be the first in line to buy a #68 Jagr Flames jersey.

But out of that list, I want Reimer and Backes.

I would also look at Perron, Helm, and McGuinn.

David Backes is EXACTLY what we need. It is probably going to take $42M over 6 years though.

If you can get him for $36M over 6 you do it right away.

If Trelving and Burke fail to address to size and physical issues of this team, all of their speeches will be nothing but rhetoric. It would be the equivalent of Jay Feaster's "intellectual honesty" crap.

I noticed Viktor Svedberg is a UFA at the tender age of 25.

6'8" 240lb behemoth of a defender.

Anyone watch the Hawks much? Would he be worth signing?

Ladd? He ticks off some boxes. Top 6 winger, physical play, vet leadership? Probably a little cheaper than Okposo you'd think.

Obviously they want to do it, but so does pretty much every team. Trading is hard. Free agents are usually overpaid. If nothing makes sense, they won't do it.

This.

I mean what are they supposed to do if none of the big heavy players want to sign here at a fair price? Should they offer Chris Stewart $3 million per to make sure he signs?

I'm not really interested in Boedker. He's a dime a dozen guy. Will be overpaid, isn't really worth the commitment. Just because he scores at a marginal top 6 rate doesn't make him like Frolik.

Main guy I think the Flames have a shot at is Reimer.

Okposo or Lucic would be ideal but unlikely.

If we manage to unload Wideman, I'd offer Campbell a 1-year contract with bonuses
