Actually how bad is Hiller?
Since Ramo went down, I got to thinking, "how bad is Hiller, if we ignore hyperbole? He's surely not 'the worst goalie in the nhl' or an 'ahl or echl caliber goalie'...or is he?"
The worst 10 qualified goalies in terms of save percentage are as follows:
Niemi/Lethonen: 0.907
Rinne: 905
Howard: 903
Condon: 902
Nilsson: 901
Lack: 901
Smith: 901
Bernier: 895
Lindback: 894
Hiller: 889
The worst 10 qualified goalies in terms of GAA are as follows:
Talbot 2.72
Anderson 2.76
Hutchinson 2.88
Lehtonen 2.89
Howard 2.92
Smith 3.06
Lindback 3.11
Nilsson 3.14
Bernier 3.17
Hiller 3.20
Hiller is 9-9-2 in 22 games.
Of his 9 losses, 6 have been against bottom tier teams including: Arizona, Edmonton (x2), Carolina, New Jersey, and Ottawa.
Of his 9 wins, 5 are against bottom tier teams including: Toronto, Vancouver (x3), Buffalo.
So, is Hiller the worst goalie in the league? Discuss...

This season, he is the worst goalie in the league. Stats show it, eye test shows it. I do take some solace from the fact that our goalie situation this year has been an unmitigated disaster, from start to finish. We've reached rock bottom with our goaltending, it can only get better from here.

How bad was that offseason? Hiller, Raymond, Engelland. BT would have been better off having a team building bondfire with the 10+ million a year he spent that offseason.

I got an idea...
Can never have enough scouts in Toronto. Move over worst goalie in the league! We are going to acquire the second worst goalie in the league for more cash and term and make all things right here!
Honestly as concerned as I am with Hiller I'm even more concerned with what BT isn't doing to address this gong show.

He is so bad. I know our d turned the puck over last game but good goalies bailout their teammates when that happens they can save grade a scoring chances alot . Hiller can't even stop a low percentage shot

He's so bad that I want to strap on goalie equipment and shove him out of the crease.

FWIW, Bernier's adjusted percentages are worse than Hiller's. The leafs play better defense in front of Bernier than the Flames do in front of Hiller.
Just in case anyone was thinking "hey, let's see if Bernier can turn it around for us". Bernier is actually the one player who could increase our chances at Matthews.

Hiller is so important to the franchise right now. He cannot get hurt or traded. He needs to play every game for the rest of the season (or at least the first 2 periods). He could quite easily keep the Flames below 65 points, which would give them a real chance at a top 3 pick. I do not think it would be a stretch to call him a franchise player for the rest of the season. Problem is teams like the Oilers are filled with Hilleresque franchise players. We only have one, but he is in the most important position.

Hiller is so #### I don't even want to spend money going to a game or even bothering to watch games on TV when he is starting because he really is "Hiller the horrible." Worst goalie in the NHL.

I would have more confidence walking into a Victoria's Secret model meeting and trying to pick up women than it appears Hiller has when he's between the pipes this year. So the zero on my end would be like a -2 on Hiller's end.
Bursts of brilliance dotted among long stretches of brutalness. It's like a reverse Kipper

he can't make routine saves up high
to be fair though without him last season they don't make the playoffs so it wasn't a terrible move by BT

The team was expected to finish last overall and needed some NHL players to fill out the roster
team doesn't make the playoffs last year without Hiller/Engelland

Why stop at Hiller? IIRC, Ortio's NHL numbers are actually worse than Hiller's this year.
If we're going full on tank, Hartley needs to get with the program and start Joni. Probably could have picked up two Matthews points against Vancouver.
/greentext... sort of.

What was so special about him last year? He was pretty average.
