Physicality is about the only thing that's disappointing in Monahan this season really. Everything else seems par for the course, another boring 60-pt season for Sean.

Give him time. He's still a very young man. I don't think he's ever going to be that physical center but as he ages he will be able to add a bit of sandpaper to his game. It's pretty tough when you are playing teams with 30 year old all star NHL players and you are counting on a 21 and 22 year old forwards to go head to head and win those match ups. The tables will turn one day and they will dominate Getzlaf and Perry but not today.

I'm not sure he'll ever be a physical player. He's a very different style of centre than Bennett. He's much more passive. Bennett likes to hunt the puck down himself. Monahan is good at getting open in the slot and burying chances.

Monahan really needs at least one power forward on his line who can get in on the forecheck, win board battles, get the puck to Monahan in the slot. This year Monahan looks really good when Ferland is doing the dirty work on that line. Definitely gonna need a power forward for each of our top two lines in this division.

Flames could have had a better fate. I am not going to mention posts and crossbars because Anaheim had their share as well.

Just saying that the Flames lost that game, more so than Anaheim won.

Hiller should know Kesler is at the circle and be ready to be square to him.
Hamilton should not completely miss the puck in the corner on the third
Engelland should not get stripped like that.

They did it to themselves.

It is not the coach, he is not telling the guys to make costly individual mistakes.

On the coach is the choice of goalie. Maybe he wanted to shelter Ortio. At some point, if the GM may have influence as he thinks that playing Hiller can generate some trade value, I think that train has sailed.

Also, Ferland needs some time in the minors to let him know he has to play with some jam if he wants to stick. Games against the California teams are where you need a power game. The guy is pretty much an AHLer, and at some point the good will from last year's playoffs must be spent.

And whoever the heck was saying Bollig should not be dressed in favour of Jooris? Well that is just silly.

Default Business as usual; Flames lose at Honda Center. Again. (5-2)

Okay, maybe biggest disappointment was the wrong way to put it. I think I may be wishing for an aspect to his game that may not be him.

And also like EE said, still so young.

Can we program Ferland to pretend the opponents are the Canucks every night? He's not
Good enough to be taking this many games off.

I really liked his game in the first half. Didn't notice him as much in the second. Ferland's coming along nicely IMO, doesn't need any time in the minors. I dunno if you're expecting him to goon it up but that's not really what we need from him.

Funny how some people think Ferland does nothing and then half of us love what he does. Very differing opinions on his contributions.

Highlights:
The bottom D pairing, Gio cruising towards 20 goals, a step closer to a high draft pick, Debrusk surprisingly fine on color

Lowlights:
Seeing Hiller suit up, getting manhandled in general...

And is it asking too much for the highest paid guy on the team to make an impact once in a while?

Hiller will do more for the Flames longterm than anything BT will get at the deadline. The Flames should start him in every game for the rest of the year. There is still time to get a decent shot at a top 3 pick. Hiller is a must start in the Sabres game, the Jets game and the Leafs game. The rest of the games are not easy so Hiller will not be as critical of a factor in those games, but in the 3 mentioned above he needs to come thru like the Hiller we have grown to love.

God, I hate this crap. Just because Ferland had an amazing playoff series last year doesn't mean he needs to goon it up to play in the NHL.

"Jam" and "Bollig" did what exactly to help the team get goals and prevent goals? We only had three forwards all night break even on unblocked shot attempts. Backlund, his linemate Frolik, and Ferland, who didn't spend any time with that line. AHLer my ass. He was one of the only three effective forwards tonight. If we had six other forwards who were that effective, then that would have meant we matched or outplayed the ducks.

Bollig? What did he do out there to prevent the other team from scoring 5 ****ing goals? Did he help the Flames score a single goal?

You don't win games with Brandon Bolligs, you win "fronting contests".

I Guaruntee you, a "soft" team that outscores the ducks and wins that game isn't whining about "Jam".

Jooris would have helped the lineup because he actually drives play. He can carry the puck and generate chances and play chip-n-chase along the boards. He also had more goals than Bollig.

Such a soft team... Colborne should not be on this team next year, guy is so useless. I know Hamilton is young but wow that guy is really weak, doesn't even try to defend against the forecheck on Getzlaf's opening goal their in the third. Pretty embarrassing stuff when your grittiest player is a 19 year old.

Colborne is a competent NHL player who makes slightly above league minimum. He's fine for his pay.

As much as I love the flames, I saw a ducks fan post this gif and it made me laugh and sob.
