No idea if this has been covered or not...but how in the hell is it that the Texas team has played 12 more games than Stockton?
That's insane.
Yeah - its weird that they are in the same division but a couple of the teams play way more games. Playoffs are decided by point percentage, not total points.
That's why Stockton is ahead of San Antonio in the standings despite San Antonio have 8 more points than Stockton.
I know the reduced schedule was the deal going into the season but I'm not sure I understand why the Flames think its a good idea. I remember reading something about more practice time but that seemed kind of weak. Isn't part of turning pro getting used to the grind of a long schedule? Or is that the whole reason - they don't want their young prospects getting ground down?

I believe the real reason is that nobody in the rest of the AHL wants to play road games in California because of the travel expense. As it is, the Heat are playing 48 games against the other four California teams. If they played as many games as the other AHL clubs, that would have to go up to 56. Likely they figure they just couldn't sell that many tickets to see the same few teams over and over.

More skills development days, more weight room days, more team practice time, dedicated power skating time with a skating tutor, video time, etc.
That gets Culkin's shot harder.
That gets Sieloff's reads better.
That gets Smith's skating faster.
That gets Kylington's corner play stronger.
I am buying Jay Random's explanation. Not convinced that fewer games and more time in the gym is going to result in a better development program. I guess we'll see.

How do you not buy it? for the most part the AHL is still a bus league. You play 76 games and any travel at all results in very few days to work on things in practice and little time in the gym, which most certainly helps development.
Mason Raymond gets the OT winner for his second of the night. Agostino also with 2 goals. Hamilton with 1 goal, 3 points. Morrison with 1g, 1a. Raymond and Hamilton named stars of the game.
