Default Feb 20 Practice: Hiller Starts

@Fan960Willis

Joni Ortio is in the starter's net at #Flames practice.

@Kristen_Odland

Good morning from the #Flames practice before they take off to Anaheim. No Russell (lower body) or Smid (upper body).

#Flames lines look like this:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler

Colborne-Backlund-Frolik

Ferland-Bennett-Jones

Bouma-Stajan-Jooris

Pairings:

Giordano-Brodie

Engelland-Hamilton

Wotherspoon-Nakladal

Edit: Hartley said Jonas Hiller starts in Anaheim.

Sweet. Pretty much no lose situation. Run with Ortio, Either he sucks and we pick high or he figures his game out and maybe we have a future goalie.

Only potential issue is that we are feeding Ortio to the wolves again. Maybe a miracle can happen and we can win in Anaheim.

Not much going right for the Flames. Anaheim on a tear.

Perfect time to reverse the curse.

Oh good, throw the rookie out against the team that just speedbagged us.

What could go wrong?

Can't hide forever. Besides, for Calgary there are about 20 teams that are 'wolves.'

Damn, I was hoping to see Ortio in net. IMO it's a toss up between him and Hiller for who gives us the better chance to win, maybe a slight advantage to Hiller. I wanted to see how Ortio would handle a high pressure situation like this, especially given "the curse".

I was gonna say, how do they bench Hiller after he finally wins one?

In fairness though, the two Hiller gave up were super soft.

I wonder if Hartley is being told to run with Hiller from the boys upstairs

I strongly disagree, the Virtanen shot was really nice.

We dont stand any chance of winning in anaheim with hiller in net. Hasn't he been pulled like every time he starts there?

Yeah the second goal was on Hamilton. Would have been nice if Hiller made a big save (#notgonnahappen) but it wasn't super soft. Of course he went down early again...

What about how Hartley has decided to use players makes you think he's ever taken directive from up top on who plays? If anything it would seem he plays guys to spite those upstairs who call up guys he doesn't appear to be a huge fan of.

With Hiller in net vs his old teammates the odds are fully stacked against us.

We couldn't even win in Anaheim with a prime Kipper in net, let alone with Hiller. Doesn't matter who we play, that stupid curse is going on forever.

The x-factor will be the new blood on defence that will be hungry to prove themselves.

As a group they did pretty well after the 1st period yesterday to shelter Hiller from any really dangerous chances.

Then again knowing the way this tends to go, they'll be in it all tied late, and the puck jump over Gaudreau's stick on a beauty play for an empty net tip in, then heading off for a change ####ing Maroon or someone will flip a puck from center ice and have it bounce awkwardly over Hiller's glove with 2 minutes left.
