We don't need him.
We need a mid pairing D and a top six winger.

Some of the oiler deals being suggested are hilarious. It's like saying the Flames should offer them Wideman, Backlund and Ferland for Subban but Montreal would have to add because Subban's contract is going to be an anchor long term.
For any team to get Subban, they'd have to massively over pay. I think a deal from the oilers would have to include this years first, RNH and either Nurse or Klefbomb.

Oilers would have to do the unthinkable and part with one of their untouchables and Montreal would be expecting Edmonton's 1st rounder as well, which of course is a lottery pick, and I think those are even more untouchable in Edmonton than any of their "young studs".

I'm guessing this rumour started....oh about the time Subban was benched Wednesday. Easiest click-bait article they'll have to write all year. They're keeping Therrien to tank them into the top 3, then firing him after the season. No way in hell they keep Therrien over Subban.

"You guys are crazy. There's NO WAY the Flames would ever trade Phaneuf. They JUST signed him to a long term deal for big dollars."

This would be a Rejean Houle type move. There's no way they can be that stupid twice.

I was listening to a podcast last night:
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/t...rrien-forever/
And the guy they had on to talk about the Canadiens, Andrew Berkshire, reckoned that if PK Subban got traded, Bergevin would go. He said that Bergevin didn't want to give him the contract he got and isn't a big fan of PK, nor is Therrien. But the owner stepped in because he's a fan of PK and gave him the deal.
So, if that is true, there is no way Subban gets traded, for several reasons.
Firstly, he just donated a shed load of money to the kids hospital in Montreal and has done a lot of positive press/events off the back of this. Trading him would be a PR disaster for the Canadiens, something they will find it hard to recover from.
Secondly, who are they going to get back that is comparable to him? Nobody. Just like Byfuglien's style is unique for the Jets, so is Subban for the Habs. They have nobody in the system to replace him, there is nobody on the market to replace him.
Thirdly, I think if Bergevin tried to trade him, the owner would step in and veto it. He would either fire Bergevin or just put a stop to any trade discussions.
I simply don't see Subban getting traded, it would be a disaster for the Habs, no matter which was you slice it. I'm not a massive fan of his high risk, flashy style, but you can't argue with his actions off the ice. You don't trade guys like him. Bergevin would be signing his death warrant if he gets rid of him. Non starter this for me, too many factors shut any notion of a trade down.

to me it would be stunning if a deal of this magnitude would happen at the trade deadline.
i know that PK is likely a polarizing guy - but given his profile in montreal, you have to think the habs would need to consider the big picture before trading him

Only a 20% chance for the second one. Take out McDavid who is something more than a normal 1st pick and sure.
I'd take Subban over any two of the rest of them.

Maybe the Canadiens are looking to get a more French Canadian flavour?
Emile Poirier, Dénis Grandehomme et un 2e?
