A seventh?
If the Leafs(!) hit on that 7th, we deserve to lose the trade.

I would give up a conditional 3rd for Reimer if it turned into a 7th if he wasn't re-signed. Honestly, it seems like a no-brainer to me even though I'm not exactly president of the James Reimer fan club.

perhaps, hypothetically, the Flames really like the player and want time to negotiate with him thus keeping him from hitting the market like they did with Bouwmeester....

Or it gives them a chance to see if they want to sign him.

Why would LL do that? He'd want a non conditional pick. They're better off keeping him and trying to re sign him vs a seventh rounder

And these are all hypotheticals. That means that they don't actually mean anything. The Scorpion doesn't have the authority to make real trades.

Those deals took place after the season and before the draft when players rights are at a low. With teams looking for veteran help in net the trade deadline value will be higher. Wait until free agency if this is your guy

That's my point. It's a good proposal from the Flames POV, despite how EV made it sound like the scorpion was on crack for suggesting it.

Perhaps they want to explore other options, or maybe Reimer just wants to move on, and has made them aware of that...

That was quite bizarre. Not sure still what to make of it.

I like Reimer, I've always thought he was hard done by in Toronto, and I'd love to see him sign with Calgary if the price is right. That being said, I'd be perfectly willing to go to July 1 and try to sign him then - no point pissing away a draft pick, since we aren't sure he would sign.

I really don't want a competent goaltender coming in at the deadline and stealing wins down the stretch. That's worse than giving up a 3rd for a goaltender that may not re-sign here.

I really want a competent goaltender who comes in and helps my favourite hockey team win hockey games. Let the chips fall where they may besides.

This. If the opportunity presents itself, you go for it. Even if it costs a couple spots in the draft order.

Reimer is really not the goalie I hope the flames go after and I would not want them making a play for him at the deadline.
If the flames make a hockey trade for a goalie with term then so be it as that needs to happen before next season. I agree though the team should really be planning for next year. That in my opinion is moving out as many vets as possible that are not in the long term plans, and giving some prospects a long look.
Personally I hope Bennett is permanently moved to centre, Porier, Wortherspoon, Etc are called up, Ortio gets the bulk of the starts and see what we have in some of these kids.

Am I the only one who understands what a conditional pick is?

I'm nit sure if that's foolish pride or misplaced hope but wh give up an asset just to get a lower pick? The playoffs are not a reality for the flames and even if they were, this team is just not good no matter who is in net. Keep the pick, play Ortio or whoever else, sell assets and give prospects a chance and call this an early training camp.
"Going for it" now would be like someone using their last of their money on a lottery ticket instead of rent and food. You don't gamble on this team all of a sudden becoming great at any cost, if it was going to happen, it would have. Keep the pick, sell the free agents, play the kids then take the higher pick at the draft. The future is more important than pride right now.

Your trade proposal was awful. Why would the Leafs make such a bad trade. So if we don't make the playoffs then no pick? We don't sign Reimer then no pick? I am sure Lou is facing the paperwork over as we speak. You brought up bringing in Reimer which is a pretty valid discussion point, but the proposal you presented is highly unrealistic and therefore being ignored by most

So most of your post is opinion, which is fine (though slightly maligned - if you'd read the rest of the last couple pages, you'd realize that the trade goes like this:
Flames:
G James Reimer
Leafs:
Conditional 3rd-round pick (7th if the Flames don't re-sign Reimer))
But, 'ignored by most'? Not sure how that is, seeing as how it's been the main talking point of this thread's last three pages.
