Some bad defending there. Too many point blank opportunities in the slot. Average goaltending.
Wonder how long Smid is out. Do we see another defense recall? Or will Smid or Russell or both go next game?
Really puts another nail in the coffin of our playoff chances. We're firmly in a bottom 6 grouping at the bottom of the league.
Big draft pick battle against VAN coming up.

Bad defense, but at the same time once in a while your goalie has to make that save.
Hiller looks so uncomfortable and shaky in net that its frightening, I can imagine his defense looking at his body language and knowing that if they make one mistake its in the net.
At the same time penalty killing is just bizarrely bad.
Don't bother fixing the goaltending this year unless you can get something long term, play it out and pick high and forget this year.

You do realize that average NHL goalies make some saves on quality scoring chances right?
The Flames had a whole lot of quality scoring chances for tonight. Dubnyk saved most of them.
Every single scoring chance for the Wild was in the back of our net. And not just this game.
Goaltending has been the Flames biggest problem this year. Everyone says team D but if you look at high quality scoring chances against vs goals against, it paints a picture. Flames goalies haven't been able to stop a puck all year. I just can't figure out why people want to deny this fact. This was Treliving's first (and only) big mistake as GM.

That's fine. I agree that one game isn't statistically significant.
So for goalies that have played at least 15 games this year Hiller is 45th in the league, just a little bit worse than Curtis McElhinney and currently the worst goalie in the league.

Can the Flames please put Hiller on waivers and send him to Stockton and then finish the year with Ortio and Poulin? I mean really......how much worse could it be....and they could also see if there is anything resembling an NHL backup in either of Ortio or Poulin.
